You thought Batman was a hero...but in true Film Theory style, today's episode tells a VERY different story. Batman in the Dark Knight Rises is supposed to be the realest, grittiest Batman EVER, but there's a MASSIVE scientific and logical error at the end of the Dark Knight Rises that shows Batman for what he actually is: a REAL failure.

But you forgot to take into account an extremely important factor. He's Batman.
  • But matpat... You forgot one think in your calculations. I'm Batman.

What if Bat-Copter is faster than the fastest copter?

Ever thought bane lied about the bomb being all that destructive
  • @brittonhome
Batman, you could've just used autopilot and said your goodbyes while its flying away...

You actually did forget an option: one of the reasons they tested many nukes under the ocean is for the damping effect of water (since water is uncompressable). He doesn't need to get 6 miles out: he only needs to get 3 miles out, and then dump the bomb in the water - the damping of the water would prevent blast injury to most everyone, while a large majority of the fallout would be returned to the water after the blast created the cloud and it's associated radioactive steam. Yes, lots of folks would get dead, but it wouldn't be from the detonation, it would be from after the fact fallout and possibly tsunami.

What if Bane just lied about the blast radius to scare the citizens of Gotham even more?

    "0 casualties" B-but the fish!!

This theory becomes ten times funnier if you imagine that the guy is saying all of this to batman in the superhero cafe.

Who else is here now that joker is the true hero theory?

I think someone pointed out the big flaw in their theory: that the Bat would only be as fast as the fastest helicopter. That's the thing. It is. The film is set in some kind of alternate future. The Bat actually has jet propellors (you can see it as it's leaving the bay). So yes, it's way faster than the fastest helicopter.

When he says everyone will be stuck in lockdown, hits differently now.
  • @Dinoman-mo7mt
His vehicle thingy was actually a osprey or a jet helicopter hibrid which is much faster that was costomised for his needs

0 casualties in super scenario? Wrong. Old man Johnson is on his boat

Matpat, what have you done? Daring to criticize not just a Batman film but a Nolan/Batman film? That's not just poking the bear. That's poking the bear while kicking its cub!

Funny how I'm learning more from these movie breakdown than from my science classes
