Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) and Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) star in Netflix's Bridgerton season 3, following in the footsteps of Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) and Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley), and Simon Basset (Regé-Jean Page) and Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor).
In this video, I discuss and compare the differences in major relationship milestones for Colin and Penelope's love story in the book "Romancing Mister Bridgerton" and season 3 of the Netflix series: their meet-cute, "I would never marry Penelope," first kiss, hand cut, and carriage scene.

  • I just miss all of the Lady Danbury and Penelope interactions from the book. Maybe we are more than we think we are. Lady Danbury sees Penelope. It is everything.
  • I didnt like how physically aggressive he was in the books, but the overall story was better
  • @ReeniEspino
"A kiss is for two people" is my favorite line from the book, hands down. It sets Colin apart from his rake brothers and shows that he appreciates Pen's full participation from Pen
  • @notevenfunny_
The show is better purely for the reason that I can accept this behaviour from a 22 year old man but never from a 33(?) year old man like he is in the book. Also, people do not realise that he did no amount of grovelling in the books, just a lot of huffing and puffing. Though I’m only halfway through the books, they got together with no amount of yearning from that man. At least we got one episode and a half episodes of that from the show and it was in subtle ways that not a lot of people realise (maybe that could mean that it was too subtle?)
  • @dl2725
Oh, you just made me realize something the show picked up from the books—subtly, quietly: Penelope never does tell anyone she wants Colin to ask her to marry him. The audience can clock it right away, and Marina confronts/accuses Pen of feeling it. But show Pen never utters a word about it to anyone. The closest she comes is to Colin himself at the end of S1, but she “forgets” what she was going to tell him
  • Luke newton bringing up the books in almost every interview is spectacular to me because he really cares about his character and the source material. And I can see those subtle book nods he adds with his character even if it just his eyes and facial expressions. I also love when the rest of the cast brings up the books as well. It is nice seeing how important these characters are to them. I do agree with you. The journals are better in the book than in the show. They were actually about his travels and quinn did not try to make him look like a rake.
  • @360shadowmoon
Agree that some of the book scenes are better than in the show. It seems like the book gave Penelope more dignity, which would have been nice to see in the show. Especially love how Book Penelope handled the "I will never marry Penelope Featherington" scene.
  • @beckyh1802
I like the show better. I like that they didn’t wait so long,I like their lighthearted relationship and joking around and gossiping. it seems like he is more aggressive and outraged in the book for kinda stupid reasons. I like how in the show he is more emotional and sensitive like highly empathetic people in the world how they try to live their life for others and doesn’t take time to notice themselves. It seems like it was a last resort in the book for them and Penelope deserves more than that. I also like how in the show Collin is remembering their meeting and how she “teased him mercilessly, in fact” that was adorable 🥰yea it would have been nice to get a flashback, but I’m happy with how they executed that scene. I agree that the balloon scene was pretty stupid, should have been made a little more dramatic like she was physically caught on something not that she just chose not to move lol 😂cracked me up though in the behind the scenes where Nicola is like “well in the world of bridgerton horniness is more important than survival so she just stands there” lol seems about right 😂
  • @evelina2619
I sometimes fail to feel the Polin chemistry in the show during scenes with sexual tension, but their chemistry shines through in every scene where they're just talking.
  • I love their chemistry, too. They’re just so rarely on the screen together.
  • @aoife08619
I think we should have got a scene or two of colin writing about his confusion in his journal and have him marrate it because its hard to get a read on what hes feeling in the show until he says it to penelope. When he was all broody and mopey in his study they could have put it there.
  • I have seen so many interviews where Nicola fought for certain book scenes and quotes to be included, and I'm so glad she did. She and Luke are doing a fantastic job. I appreciate they knew enough about the source material to know what fans would like vs what they wouldn't, and I'm sorry Luke had to deal with the hate he knew he would get. You can tell both of them took the time to work on their characters and it shows in their performances. I do hate the show dragging out the LW reveal and the whole plot line of Eloise's anger, which didn't exist in the book. It's all unnecessary drama.
  • I wish they would have used the Lady Danbury angle in the book. She and pen had a real connection. Lady D really liked Pens personality and saw something in her she saw in herself. And she found her a kind soul.
  • This is my formal petition to have you narrate the audio book! I absolutely love the actors playing Penelope and Colin and I think they are doing a bang up job on the show, but the book does a much better job of making me feel connected to them separately and as a couple.
  • I cannot choose because the spirit of the book is in the show and this is only part 1 so we are still waiting for scenes fans want from the book. I feel colin is better in the show because we don’t see his temperament and I like how they show how he feels he has to be like his brothers but chooses against that when he is with Penelope. I also like the new dynamic with them with the lessons being a way to make it up to Penelope at first and him finally waking up to his feelings about her. Penelope is more outspoken in both the book and show which makes me happy. I also like how both separately are finding themselves before finally being together romantically.
  • Read the book. Liked it. Didn’t like the 10 year time difference. The show, love it. They condensed it. Pen in the book a pocket Venus. In the show a gorgeous pocket Venus.
  • Love you looking at how the book scenes compare between book version and show version. I can't wait to see if any book scenes crop up in part 2 and if you can give this video a part 2. Thank you for posting to help fill the gap between the parts of the season while we wait for part 2 to drop and get pissed off with all the "spoilers" going round
  • @caleruelas
I like them both, the book and the serie. But i must say, I prefer Colin in the serie, Book Colin was not likeable.
