  • Gamefreak is the luckiest developer ever. They deliver minimum effort but receive maximum profit for it.

You know things are bad somewhere when game journalists feel the need to make a performance review.
  • Pokemon gold and silver, a miraculous achievement in game optimization and compression, effectively putting two games on one cartridge back when people were still figuring things out. Pokemon scarlet and violet, a shining example of how to not optimize a game in a age where bigger and more impressive games can be used as reference on how to do so well.
  • IGN gets a lot of flack for their reviews, but a lot of other places aren’t doing in-depth technical reviews like this. Shout out the reviewer, Michael Thompson. He also did a great analysis of Gotham Knights’ performance.

Important thing to remember. Pokemon is the highest grossing franchise of all time, and this is the quality they choose to pump out EVERY YEAR because fans just buy the games religiously. The games are blatantly commercials for their other merch at this point. Indie developers put more effort into their games and charge way less than a AAA title price for this garbage.

we need more criticism. ignore the people that say 'it's fine, they will patch it out' and 'get over it' because it's not fine at all
  • @TheZetamx
Gamefreak: The bugs will get fixed in a separate dlc for a low price of 30$. We also want to thanks the fans for the eternal support no matter how crappy the games we make 🙏
  • @theober555
The worst part is that the performance in this review looks better than what it felt like it was for me playing in the same areas

Monster hunter stories 2, botw, Warframe, dragon quest, Xenoblade, etc all run on the switch pretty well and only have occasional bugging but this is so just all over the place
  • @haifito
Great review. Finally someone who isn’t blaming the hardware for such a buggy and visually lacking “AAA” game. 👍🏻

Gamefreak has been holding pokemon back for years now... About time people realized.

Can you imagine a Pokémon game with amazing graphics, still in an anime cartoon style, like a Pixar movie and a beautiful open world a la Elden Ring? Where it has a bunch of secrets, random events happen, and everyone has a cool unique experience exploring. Oh and you can actually change the difficulty - because you know? It's not that hard to do so; it's literally just an option.
  • @mathlfr
After playing 150 hours of Monster hunter rise on switch, the console is NOT the problem.
  • @gpolenik
Pokemon is a great example that people will buy anything if it has the Pokemon name in it. This franchise hasn't evolved for much in the last 30 years. It honestly baffles me how this game can be such a mess and look like this. Meanwhile Zelda and Mario games run phenomenally and look gorgeous

You know it's bad when Nintendo fans become self aware
  • @PixelleHearts
Can we just give Pokemon world development to MonoSoft? Look at how well they handle open world compared to Gamefreak
  • @Epsilonsama
What's sad is that the game is really fun when it works but this performance issues and glitches are unnaceptable.
  • @danhalo1405
It is baffling to me that Gamefreak somehow managed to make those new Pokemon games somehow look and run worse than Sword and Shield
