Repairing WORN OUT Planetary Carrier for Cat 740 Truck | Making Custom Boring Bar

2024-03-29に共有
We're tackling a worn-out planetary carrier from a Caterpillar 740 Articulated haul truck's diff final drive. The challenge? The damaged gear thrust faces are located within a hard-to-reach location on the carrier housing, making them difficult to repair with conventional tools. So that means we need to make a custom boring bar specifically designed to access those tricky areas with our milling and facing head. In this video, we'll walk you through the entire process, from machining the boring bar on the lathe to the precise milling work required on the planetary carrier itself!

In this video we are using:
- Hafco TM-1740G Centre Lathe
- Hafco BM-63VE Milling machine

  • what I never cease to love about this channel is the attitude of "to get this job done, we're going to need a custom/obscure tool - so let's get the tool made, and then get the job done"
  • @italoosorio
Thank you for not adding "fake dramatization" into your videos, this make it attractive and genuine. I am tired of some other channels moving a way of "showing the work" and adding "unnecessary drama" while being such a "bad actors".

I can't get over the fact that I saw the legendary Homeless in person before I found out he was famous. I used to work down the street. Excellent video as always.
  • Not only does he make a custom tool for a job that seems to be 'rare' (after all, he didn't have that tool already) - he makes sure said tool is NOT a "rough temporary solution" but a properly machined, good looking addition for the tool rack in case similar jobs should show up in the future. Well done, Kurtis. And as usual, but always worth mentioning: Very good job filming the whole process, Karen (and putting up with all them bloopers)

Working Graveyard shift in America waiting for 1 AM every Friday morning to watch the next episode. They never disappoint. Currently trying to be the number 1 thumbs up but very competitive! Thanks for the great content!

I want to take a moment and acknowledge how much you guys have meant to me over these past 5 years ? I can’t imagine what my Thursday night/Friday morning would be without homeless, Kurtis and Karen. Also a shout out to George, the Caterpillar Manufacturing Corporation and their many amazing and terrifying machines. Here’s to another 10 years of incredibly inspiring, fascinating and hilarious videos. All of my love and respect for you all. 🥰😍🙏❤️
  • The videographer does a really competent job. She conveys all the information in a compact and easily to understand way. The jump cutting is great, saves time and doesn’t get hung up in transition effects which can be an annoying waste of time. The dog ties the videos together. He does such a good job making us care about machining to make money so he can have chew toys. Oh! And the guy who works the machine is pretty good too.
  • Awww poor old Homie, the look of sheer disappointment when he was left inside, great Vid guys
  • I hope you never stop making videos in the near future because we love watching 5,000 people in 13 minutes should prove that lol.
  • Midnight here and up pops Kurtis like some crazed machining Easter Bunny…in other words,a normal Thursday midnight!
  • @jg2382
My son was born today, he got to watch his first CEE video with me while he is in the NICU. Thank you for your videos, they mean a lot to us all!
  • @w.o.o.d.y
Seeing that damage on the thrust surfaces, I'm very surprised that there was no excessive wear on the pins or gears. Good catch whoever found the issue. Genius solution to manufacture a specific tool to enable an effective repair rather than a full replacement. Nice one Kurtis, you never fail to impress or to entertain !! Thanks dude.
  • Karen, your camera work on this was exceptional. You have a gift for knowing exactly what to film to explain what is going on. (The machinist is pretty good too!). Enjoy your Easter break.
  • @everestyeti
Favourite day of the week, Curtis being a genius in the workshop, Homey carrying out his inspections, George and Co bringing the soundtrack and Karen bringing it all together in one perfect package. 👍
  • No waffle no advertising. Cutting Edge Engineering and Snowball Engineering. Best marching channels on YouTube. Thanks.
  • These are the most educational videos. For machining yes, but also on problem solving in general. Australia has a genuine treasure.
  • @deefdragon
I watch several different machining channels, and its always ammusing to me how it feels like NONE of them tap the same way.
  • It's a real privilege to watch a True Professional work. Your wife's camera work and directorship included! Thank you for sharing ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
