Explore the Most Sacred Lake of Tibet and the Most Isolated Monastery in Yamdrok Lake, Tibet

Published 2023-04-21
Tashi Delek!

Today, I will show you a trip to Yamdrok Lake, one of the most sacred lakes in Tibet.

Located 114 kilometers away from downtown Lhasa, Yamdrok Lake is a must-visit destination for all trips from Lhasa to Shigatse and Everest Base Camp. It is also worth a day trip even if you don't go further to Shigatse and Everest.

On this trip, I will not only take you to the famous Yamdrok Lake, but also introduce the cultural and natural highlights along the way.

You will see the place where local Tibetans do the water burial at Brahmaputra River, take in stunning views of YaJiang River Valley from an elevation of 4280 meters, and down to the lakeside to meet the huge but gentle Tibetan yaks and Tibetan mastiffs raised by locals.

After that, I will take you to a local family and have lunch with them. You can admire the beautifully decorated Tibetan house.

Our last stop will be Ritog Monastery, the most isolated monastery on a peninsula in Yamdrok Lake. Funded in the 14th century, this monastery now only has one monk and is rarely visited by tourists. But today, we’ll have the chance to explore it together.

Hope you enjoy my video as before.

Thanks for supporting me. Every encouragement and sponsorship from you is the driving force for me to continue to shoot and explore beautiful Tibet. Fund me a cup of tea, a meal, a liter of oil, or a glass of beer, and I will continue to work hard to bring you more exciting videos.

Tashi Delek Jamyang … thank you once again for yet another insight into Tibetan culture.. I was particularly impressed with the stunning view at Yumdrok lake .. like you said from another world …gorgeous! I’m also impressed with Tebetians funeral arrangements … we in the west are crippled by very very expensive extortionate funeral costs .. Tibetan people not only put there loved ones to rest but provide and give back to wildlife after death …wonderful .. I love the hospitality of the Tibetan village folk …it’s so refreshing to see …love it love it
