most likely this is to prevent mission fail from random explosions in the distance, not sure why so many planes just crash in this game but I even seen them on ground quite few times and most common crash is near Michael's house at least for me

Considering how pilots in the game despawn from their planes and those said planes than crash. I'm not surprised that they are used to random explosions. I wrote this before I saw the comment saying the same exact thing

easily explainable. i theorize that this is because there are sometimes planes exploding in the distance. if the devs disabled them getting spooked by explosions; this way the mission has a 0 chance of failing by random.
