Prospecting with a CLEAR SLUICE!

Publicado 2024-06-29
Had a crazy idea to make a sluice out of poly carb (clear acrylic). Could watch it run all day.
Enjoy the video!

Awesome! PLEASE do this with a clear regularly shaped pan, so we can see just how fast the gold drops to the bottom. I have a feeling the gold drops to the bottom much faster than most people realize and that they are over stratifying and wasting time. A clear pan will settle this!

Polycarbonate is stronger than acrylic btw, although both are carbon based polymers. Not the same thing. Awesome idea! I like how you can see what's happening in the sluice. Very cool.
  • You can polish out the opaque machined sections of your sluice using a few different methods. The easiest is Flame Polishing where you use a propane torch held at a distance to heat and partially melt the polycarbonate. It turns it back clear, but can be a little bit tricky to learn as your first use it. It is easy to burn the poly, so practice is required. Another method is to use a acetone and MEK (methyl ethyl ketone) vapor chamber. It's really just a box with a container of acetone and MEK mixed together. It creates a vapor that partially melts the poly and turns it clear. Pretty effective and has great results.
  • Use a small ICE powered pressure washer to wash out the cracks in the bedrock. You will also need a submersible pump to supply water to the pressure washer but in only needs to supply 5-10 gal per minute. So not that large and a 1000 watt generator to power the pump but the weight penalty is not that great considering the increased yields. Make a cart using bicycle wheels, strap everything to it and you can traverse quite rough terrain and long distances (1-2 miles) with minimal effort.
