VW Touareg Door Lock Fix

Publicado 2021-02-08
This video will explain what component within the mechanical part of the door lock causes the lock not to open. Easy fix, this is a common problem with these locks.

SUCH A GOOD VIDEO. Lots of advice out there suggesting thumping the outside handle. Thumping the inside worked for my non opening door. Closed the door and it was stuck again. Thumped again and it opened. Solution-WD-40. Sprayed liberally in the lock mechanism and all working fine. Thanks for such a good video.

Porsche / Audi / VW should hire you as a senior engineer. I have a 2006 Cayenne. I may try emery cloth instead of a file to maintain the rounded shape of the plastic piece. I think a drop of hi-quality gun oil like CLP will minimize wear and prevent a 2nd disassembly years from now. You get a gold star - Thank You!

Thanks for taking the time to explain. Excellent effort. I do have (Touareg 2009 ) one rear door that does NOT lock. I will try to fix it next opportunity as I did not know where to start. Steve, Sydney

This came in super helpful, took a while to get the door open in the first place to get the lock out to this stage though.

Thanks alot... it saves me from a real nightmare...my front passenger door was stuck..due to same reason on this video... except driving in a rough road didnt work.. even hammering the door by mallet on the lock location didnt work.. but i managed to insert a long steel round bar, pointed it into lock lever and hammer it.. it opens right away.. i also dis connect the lock electric cable from connection so itll not get stuck again till i purchase a new one..🙏🙏🙏

I have the opposite problem. The door will not lock. Perhaps someone can help me figure this out. I noticed the door did not lock with the remote. So I attempted to move the red-lever to manually lock it, but there was a lot of resistance. I managed to push the red lever up with my pocket knife, but the door still did not lock. I may have pushed it too far in my attempts. I then tried messing with the handles while turning the key in the door lock, and moving the lever, but no dice. I have since sprayed silicone everywhere, from the top and the sides, and messed with the red lever, the handles, the electronic lock button, the door latch, and the key in all sorts of configurations, but no dice. I can hear the actuator motor engage, but it's like the red lever just refuses to cooperate. The inner handle will re-set the red lever, but it feels very "crunchy" while it is doing so - even since the silicone. The red lever does not want to stay down, as well. Sometimes it stays down when I pull the inner handle, sometimes it just flips back up. The feel of the handle is always "crunchy" and with high resistance while it's moving the red thing. If I "unlock" the door with the key, the red lever flips back upward, like I tried to lock the door. I can pull it back down manually, or with the inner handle, but it is a crap-shoot on whether it will stay down. If I lock the door, the red lever will also flip up some - but the outer handle still opens the latch and it only takes one pull of the inner to open it. If I push the red lever even further, to where you can barely see it, there is suddenly a lot of resistance that builds up on the outer door handle with each subsequent pull, until you can't pull it 1mm without it feeling like it wants to break something, and the latch is not opening. The inner handle still resets the lever of course. I am thinking perhaps I just need a new electronic actuator. I'm not sure what else I could possibly attempt. -- If anyone has any input, it would be appreciated. I really did not want to take the driver's door apart, after having done the passenger front window regulator, but I am afraid I may have to. Thank you.
