Ares might be the only Greek god who didn't assault women. He actually killed a son of Poseidon for assaulting one of his daughters. Ares was the father of the Amazons and involved in the lives of his mortal children. He was also good at parties, being able to be peaceful outside of war. Athena was actually a raging misogynist, as detailed in the Oresteia, she said she'd always take the side against women.

Thor and Ares. Both brutal gods. Both gods of common people with common problems.

Ares will NEVER backstab you. Instead, he'll facestab you 'til you no longer have a face

I want to note: according to myths during the Trojan War Ares was on the side of Trojans and continued to support them after the war. Trojans led by Aeneas moved to Italy and continued to honor Ares, but called him Mars. Centuries later, their descendants with red cloaks and the name of Mars would subjugate Greece and the Oikumene

Ares the type of God that will never lie to you and tell as it is

I once read a fanstory about ares, a retelling about when the giants kidnapped him and confined him in a jar. He was essentially forgotten about until artemis and hermes found him, and it really messed him up that none of his family even remembered he was gone. He eventually overcame his trauma with the help of artemis and hermes, and he became a protector of the prisoner/hostages of war, punishing those who treated their pows unfairly or cruelly.

Ares the most hateful god, yes. Yet who does not feel hatred when injustice is delivered upon you and those you hold close? Who does not fight with brutal cruelty when you know that all will be lost? The common man fights for simple survival, simple ideals and the thirst for betterment. When presented a foe who insures none of those hings will reach him and his own what is a man to do? Nothing is left but to die or fight with your heart mind spirit and soul. Ares the God of war, he who lays with Love and is both held back, and sent forward by it. Ares, the kindest son of Zeus.

Don't forget: When Medusa was raped by Poseidon, Athena blamed her and punished her When one of Ares daughters was raped he found the rapist and gave him an agonizing and painful death

The difference between Ares and Athena is that he will give you the strength to fight for the present, while Athena will give you the knowledge to fight for the future, that's why she is the God of the heroes while Ares is the God of the peoples

Let shields be dented, armour pierced, helmets cracked and torn asunder, ground become slick with blood and entrails! Let mothers weep and wail! Let orphaned children wonder why! Let the ash and blood stain the rivers black! Let the cities be torn asunder! Let Athena turn in horror! Unleash your Dogs of War! Unchain the Dark heart of Man! ARES!!!!! HEED OUR PRAYERS!!!!! AREEEES!!!! WE FIGHT FOR YOU!!!!!"

Ok guys, hear me out: Athena and Poseidon tried to vent their grudges against Ares by trying to get revenge on his children, the Romans, during the Punic wars. Poseidon released Carthage’s experienced fleet and 4 fleet-crippling STORMS against the Roman stubbornness and persistence in the first war. Athena gave Hannibal the most brilliant military and strategic mind of the world and the Romans, again, had just stubbornness and persistence. Rome won in both cases, and Ares had the last laugh.

ARES! DESTROY MY ENEMIES AND MY LIFE IS YOURS!

FInally a refreshing take on aries as a god, it doesn't shy away from his flaws but it also his good traits while differentiating him from Athena

I feel like Ares and Athena would be on different sides in a coup or rebellion, Ares with the people and Athena with the rulers and nobles

So Ares is technically the nicest son of Zeus.

Ares teaches us that you only lose if you give up, and that you should never give up.

Athena was the Commander’s war Ares was the soldier’s war. Ares is surprisingly caring towards those he holds dear. After all, soldiers fight for something, usually their families

Ares is also apparently big on family values
