That anchor turn was the most American thing I've ever laid eyes on

I've got to admit, critics can call this movie cliched or unrealistic, but I had a blast. Sometimes, you just want to immerse yourself in complete awesomeness, which is what this movie is. The scene of the Missouri setting sail again, commanded by the ship's old crew, made the whole movie worth it.
  • No matter how many times it’s said or how it’s delivered whenever there is a line like: “I’m gonna die, you’re gonna die, we’re all gonna die………just not today” it gives me goosebumps. Every. Time.

Imagine explaining to your alien boss how you loss to a 70 year old ship

The fact that all the older Sailors are the Missouri’s real crew from when she sailed in WW2 makes this even more awesome.

It's cool that the USS Missouri is not only a war hero, but she's also a movie star

Navy pilots at the end: “Someone order some close air support? Because these guys trapped us, and we are MAD about it.”

"We're all gonna die...just not today" gives me the same vibes as "call an ambulance, but not for me"

No matter what people say, it's just a fun movie to pay homage to a fun board game, and it's a goddamn Iowa class battleship. Perfection.

That Iowa class ship anchor drifting, gangster leaning, pointing all her guns and firing. What a very badass scene.
  • the veteran dude that was having a fist fight with an alien had that face exclaiming "what an ugly bastard you are" lol
  • "So how are we supposed to defeat a superior alien ship with advanced weapon systems?" "Tokyo drifts, and FAMILY. "
  • @ZNA_Productions
I love how the alien's bombs are made to look like the pegs from the board game 😂

Remember kids. The sweet grandpas we all love once went to war, and they'd do it again.

Most advanced ship in the universe vs one drifty boi

This film is the definition of a guilty pleasure. We all know it's wildly inaccurate and ridiculous, the story is predictable, and the writing/dialogue is a bit ropey at times. But god damn if it isn't fun to watch. Casting the real life veterans was a genius move and they all nailed their part to perfection. One of my absolute favorite "turn your brain of" films.

I was with my family one day when this movie came out in theaters and we were going to see something else (a Harry Potter movie I think). Anyway, we were in line at the concession stand and I told my wife to give me a few minutes. I snuck in to catch a glimpse of this one and my timing was perfect. Just as I walk though the door, they start firing the main guns. It was all I could do to keep from shouting FUCK YEAH. Granted there are a lot of liberties taken with this ship but it was GREAT to see her on the big screen. I will say a few things here. In my previous comments, I said that this ship probably had the most concentrated amount of conventional floating/surface firepower. In a surface engagement, a battleship can withstand an amazing amount of damage. Keep in mind that an aircraft carrier can PROJECT firepower but needs her escorts to help protect her from attack. Using an anchor to turn a ship like that is pure fiction. If you tried that, there's a good chance it would pull the bow under and cause severe damage. The weapons fired by the aliens can absolutely do damage to destroyers because they rely on speed and maneuverability to protect themselves. That being said they have minimal armor. Battleships are a TOTALLY different story. Notice the room the helmsmen were in? That's 16.1 inch armor. You're not punching through that. The main 16 inch gun turrets and the deck are all heavily armored (granted not as heavily) and the damage done from the alien craft is completely unrealistic. It would scorch the paint and probably nick the turrets with some smaller dents. You would NOT destroy turret 3 like that. I said in my previous comments that this move doesn't show even half of what a battleship can do. With a full crew, ALL guns would be fully manned (including the 5 inch guns) and all of her missile batteries would be ready to rock n roll. The 16 inch guns can fire roughly 2 rounds a minute while the 5 inch guns can do something like 6 rounds a minute. They were well within firing range of all guns. If she had fired all her missiles ahead of the attack, turned hard to port (Full rudder and reverse port screws to assist the hard turn), she would have moved into position pretty quick while they were busy tracking the missiles. She then would have opened up completely with all guns (fire the mains at about 2 seconds apart) and seriously hurt them. The Phalanx CIWS (Close In Weapons System) would have been able to potentially stop most if not all of the enemy rounds fired at them. That is my assessment. IS2 (SW) USN 1994-1997
