Seasons 4 and 5 had Julie Plec as a showrunner when Seasons 1-3 were run mostly by Michael Narducci who wrote some of the best TVD episodes. Take that as you will. 😂😂
-
I find it especially sad that Phoebe Tonkin and Claire Holt didnt have more scenes together because they spent their whole teenage years playing best friends on H2O just add water. They have amazing chemistry and such a long history of acting together. Truly couldve had some great scenes with them and their characters

One reason i prefer the originals over tvd is the lack of messy romance. And romance is always in the background and never the main point.
-
When Joseph Morgan speaks his monoloques, it's as if you're watching a Shakespeare play, spectacular
-
I think the greatest thing about Klaus and haley's relationship is it subverts your usual romance inspired stories and expectations, they know they don't work together but try their best to be good co parents and respect each other as such, most stories would've shoved them together regardless if they worked or not
-
Joseph Morgan and Daniel Gillies were absolutely iconic in both The Originals and The Vampire Diaries. I'm genuinely frustrated they were never considered for major awards. Their performances often overshadowed their co-stars because they were JUST. THAT. GOOD.
-
If this cast was in an HBO's version of the originals with HBO writing and budget, I am more than confident that it would have been considered one of the greatest ever tv shows
-
Joseph Morgan as Klaus Mikaelson is one of the greatest vampire characters of all time and his monologues is some of the best ever. The scene where he gives his enemies a chance to pick up the coin to be spared has to be one of the most badass scenes in T.V. history.
-
When Rebekah takes Hope, knowing how much she always wanted to be a mom, Klaus giving her up with tears in his eyes... It makes me weep every time 😭
-
The fact that vampire diaries went down hell after the departure of the originals says so much about how much character they bring ! Every plot that followed was a catastrophe ! And the originals was a show about adults which was perfect since we've all grown up from the teenage drama that was happening on tvd
-
You were spot on about Elijah's character basically regressing in the last two seasons. Honestly after Season 3 he just becomes very sad and quiet. Like after killing Marcel and scaring the shit out of Hayley and Hope from his Red Door, it's like a part of him dies, there's a light in his eyes that's gone. He's not as playful, his humor is gone, he has less to do, he hinders the people around him than helps. It's like you could tell he's just tired of living if that makes sense.
-
The Originals is at its heart a show about a dysfunctional family whose fate could have been avoided if just one of them had gone to therapy. Their patterns were all established when they were human and for over a millennium they've repeated their respective trauma cycles and re-experienced attachment issues over and over again. It tired me out a little to watch but also made the story so compelling because they acted so predictably human.
-
the fact that Marcel was SO hated during its run has always baffled me because he’s genuinely one of the most interesting characters and there’s SO many parts of his story that could’ve been heavily explored but aren’t
-
Have I've seen The Vampire Diaries? No. Have I've seen The Originals? No. Will I watch a three hours long essay about The Originals just because is Friendly Space Ninja? Absolutely.

Yusuf who plays Vincent is so underrated like his acting really sells the character. On paper, I think most people would find Vincent's character annoying. If they had switched him out for another actor, no doubt he would be more hated. But he's just so good, he's like one of the only characters that tells off The Mikealson's to their face and they just stay silent and accept it. He has such a strong backbone of authority that everyone just accepts.
-
Klaus screaming "REBEKAAAAAAHHHH!" will forever be equally iconic and blood curdling
-
"Are there any more inopportune deaths you'd like to wave in my face?" "Give me a month. I'll get you a list." Hands down one of my favourite lines of dialogue in a TV show ever.
-
One thing I love about Vincent is how he wasn’t afraid to call out the Mikaelsons on their bullshit. He was a true pillar of the French Quarter and was even ready to tussle with Klaus when he killed one of his witches. And he didn’t hold back on laying into Elijah for murdering those four girls for a ritual.
-
what i loved about the Originals is that unlike TVD it isnt tied to any teenage drama of love triangles and high school, so more time was devoted to the lore and the politics. the adult themes were done so well because the characters weren't annoying teenagers
-
So many things worked for it, the cast, the city as setting, New Orleans. And a CW show with the focus on adults. ADULTS, not teenagers. Loved it, still do.
