15 Freeway to Las Vegas remains closed due to fiery crash involving truck carrying lithium batteries

Why dont they call in national guard and set up 15 southbound to be one lane and one lane going north?? People are going to DIE from the heat. You cannot just close the highway like this leaving people stranded. Total incompetence

How the hell did they get that shipping container inside of a tanker truck? They must have beat the snot out of it and squished it and that damaged the batteries.

Tanker trucks do not carry self contained shipping container industrial batteries.

What caused the truck to roll over? Going too fast with hazardous cargo? I've driven this stretch repeatedly -- very hard to have an accident unless you're driving too fast or fall asleep.

75,000 gross weight includies truck, trailer, container and the "3 commercial grade lithium ion batteries " inside the container. This would have a high center of gravity. The area is known for very aggressive truck drivers passing each other repeatedly. The truck rolled over in a curve. It was caused by aggressive driving, speeding and trying to force the vehicle to do what it can't do. The truck would have been hard to turn for the curves and lane changes while maintaining speed. He needed to slow down to regain control but he wasn't interested in slowing. The truck didn't have the available power to do what he wanted so all of the energy collected and pushed him over. He literally chose to roll over.

In this heat, that's hell!

Always carry emergency supplies in your car. Even if it's just a few water bottles and Granola bars

in order to put out a fire from lithium batteries on fire is you have to submerge them. How will they submerge a semi truck? This is how bad going all electric will be.

Why don't they just turn the south bound lane into a one lane north one lane south.

Would have been nice if the reporter had told us: what type of lithium batteries are in the truck (not a tanker); whether the batteries themselves are actually burning, or if the fire is from the spilled fuel for the truck, and they’re concerned that the batteries will be set on fire by that fire.

Why don't they require shippers to use containers that are explosion proof to ship cargo like this?

The same batteries that are in EV cars that they are forcing us to accept.
