Olympics chaos as triathlon axed just hours before start in huge blow to Team GB gold medal hope

Olympics day four started in chaotic fashion as the men's triathlon was cancelled in the middle of the night just hours before it was due to start.

The postponement is hugely embarrassing for Games organisers but it's also bad news for Team GB's gold medal hope Alex Yee who is heavily backed to go one better than the silver he won in Tokyo.

Tests in the early hours of Tuesday morning showed the River Seine's water quality was too dangerous for athletes to swim in and organisers pulled the plug at a 2:30am (UK time) meeting - just four-a-half hours before its 7am UK start time.

The event will now be held at 9:45am on Wednesday - straight after the women's race.

Authorities have blamed recent heavy rainfall for the increase in bacteria levels, but if the water quality still has not improved by Wednesday, Games organisers will be forced to move both events to Friday, which is the final contingency day, and they may even be run as DUATHLONS as a last resort.

Team GB super heavyweight boxing gold hope Delicious Orie saw his Olympic dream destroyed by yet another terrible judges decision as he lost 3-2 to Armenia's Davit Chaloyan - despite dominating throughout.

The Paris swimming pool has been accused of being one of the slowest in modern Olympic history because it is TOO SHALLOW.

And after Magic Monday saw GB bag 6 medals including our first two golds, there are more medal hopes today.

With Yee having to wait another 24 hrs to go for triathlon glory, our main gold hope is in the pool with Matt Richards and Duncan Scott going in the men's 4 X 200m freestyle relay.

Nathan Hales is one point behind the leader going into the final day of the trap shooting with Tokyo bronze winner Matthew Medley just three points behind him.

Flag bearer Clarisse Agbegnenou could win a third Olympic gold in the 63kg Judo final.

And the women's gymnastics team have the unenviable task of trying to beat Simone Biles and Team USA but they should bag a medal.
