GOG is doing the Lord's work of preserving the good oldies.
  • If only some of RE's contemporaries (Dino Crisis, Silent Hill, Parasite Eve) didn't have absolutely shit preservation.

This is good news. Honestly, the gaming industry is the absolute worst when it comes to preservation. What's worse is that a lot of game developers and even gamers have this mindset that once a remake comes out you don't have to bother with the original. The idea that a remake should or even could just replace the original is really bad for video games as an art form because it devalues them into content to be discarded as soon as the new shiny replacement comes out. The same thing applies to other forms of media, but in the gaming industry this kind of mindset is more celebrated than elsewhere and it is depressing. Video games don't have to be groundbreaking in continuity, It's okay for our classics to be classics, to be examined with historical lenses instead of treated as machines in need of repair. Imagine movie buffs telling you not to bother with the iconic original Cape Fear and instead just watch the new shiny remake. Preservation is something that needs to be discussed more within the gaming industry.
  • THANK GOD! Anytime I've wanted to replay classic RE2 without issues, I've had to dust off my PS3. I tried to get the PC version working a few months back and it just wouldn't go so this is wonderful news. It can't release soon enough.

Hearing news on Sphere's channel before GOG annouced it 😅😂
  • @casualcadaver
I love GOG because you actually OWN your games, unlike any other platform.

I love GOG so much. If I have the option to buy a game there, I'll always do so. They're the closest thing to actually owning a PC game because you can create installer backups. Steam is convenient and by all counts one of the best game providers, but having so many integrated online services means that if Valve ever goes under, so many games will meet the same fate as early PC physical games, only playable through unofficial means. Edit: GOG restoring more Capcom PC games like Dragon's Dogma Online, Monster Hunter Frontier, and... Resident Evil Survivor would be the dream.

Great news! And to hear it here first? 🤯
  • I love the sound of Suzi giving the news of Classic Resident Evil in the morning. Preserving old video games is always a plus.

I knew I wouldn't regret supporting GOG with my money. They are doing God's work around here and we gamers appreciate these good old games.

You are the perfect person to make this announcement, I am so happy, as a 42 year old man-child that grew up plying this game it fills me with joy that I will now be able to play my dear RE games from my teen years again.

Goblin Suzi at the end is one of the funniest/ cutest things I've ever seen. "Touch it! Grab them files! Port it! Port it now! Cawfeeee!"
  • This is great news. I still break out Resident Evil: Deadly Silence (the DS port of RE1) from time to time.
  • I love how Sphere tries and fails to hide her smile when she says "re-enter the world of survival horror", like she can barely believe it. We have the right nerds fighting for game preservation lol
  • I can't quite believe GOG just ghost dropped this. Between this and the recent Alpha Protocol release GOG is really becoming a champion for games preservation! Also, congratulations for this collaboration!
  • The big GOG logo was on screen during the one developer's interview in order to cover up a Capcom special forces operative pointing a gun at him to keep him on-message.

irrelevant, but i find this girl's voice to be charismatic and soothing.
