Sam Wilde Made this Fabric - I Made this QUILT!

Publicado 2024-06-30
Sam Wilde is a new designer for Free Spirit fabrics and I was fortunate to receive his new collection - Florescence to work with. I have wanted to make an optical illusion quilt for ages and this seemed like the perfect opportunity! Don't you just love how it came together? as promised, I will list the sizes at the end of this description.

It really is the support from my lovely Patrons that allows me to keep this show on the road and I am very grateful to each one of you!
You can join them there for the price of a coffee or a craft magazine and watch the content back to the start of 2019! Look in the feature 'Collections' to find what you are looking for!

My daughter Martha and her partner Adam have recently made a beautiful new set of cards for my shop, inspired by all the garden birds that come to visit me in The Last Homely Garden - if you fancy a set - thelasthomelyhouse.co.uk/products/birds-of-northum…

The music in this video was chosen from Epidemic Sound and is called Seventh Garden and Remove the Complexities.

If you enjoy watching me make quilts - check out this playlist    • Fabric, sewing, patchwork, quilting

There is always so much going on here and there is more behind the scenes over on Instagram - kateatthelasthomelyhouse.

Thank you so much for watching!

The measurements I used
the 'feature' squares are 5"
the 'shadow' fabric is 1.5" wide and 5.5" long - this will need trimming a little when you sew each one to the square,
The little offset pieces are 1" x 1.5"
make sure you get the shadow layout opposite each other.
The sashing I used was 2" wide.
Have a play with the layout and alter the sizes to suit yourself
Enjoy

My husband was my maths genius, I’d go running to him, show him what I had and what I wanted to end up with, and he would figure it out. He was also good at drawing my project out for me. I lost my dear husband 3 years ago after 48 years together. I still ask him for help, and eventually we figure it out . Your quilt is amazing, thank you.

When you become a quilter, all those times we said ‘we will never use algebra in our real lives’, it comes back to haunt us.

Love your work. At 73 I decided to make my 9 grandchildren a quilt in 9 months just by watching you. Thank you

I think the designer of the fabric will appreciate how you have used this material. It’s going to be an awesome quilt.

As was mentioned in another comment, 17,000 views and 4,800 likes. Leave a thumbs up for all the work it takes to produce a video. It helps the maker.

So much pleasure watching you work on your beautiful quilt and "visiting" you and your lovely home! Thank you, Kate, for the wonderful visit!
  • You won't fall asleep while you are making that quilt. The colours seem to pop right off the fabric. Such a happy quilt that will make.
  • The optical illusion quilt is the perfect choice for the lovely bold fabric. The black shadows make the colours and patterns sing!

That optical illusion is so effective as a quilt pattern.
  • My son always laughs at us quilters who say we are maths challenged because we use math and geometry all th time. Love your Homely House nd Garden videos.

I personally have never seen anyone use this method Kate. I think all your quilts are darling just the same as you! Your DIL is very fortunate to have you. My MIL and I get along fabulously so I love when other people do as well.

Kate, it's a wonderful quilt. Sitting on the lime green sofa with all your YouTube friends, having a chat and a biscuit. I love watching your videos, always look forward to Sundays to share some time with you. ❤

Always nice to watch someone who has the same challenges with blocks as I do. The quilt looks fantastic. I look forward to seeing it quilted. Thanks Kate.
  • Kate, thank you for your video and showing us this beautiful quilt! I want to make one now! I feel that since I started…I KNOW that since I started watching you on your YouTube channel (plus I am now a Patreon), you have taught me courage and fearlessness in my quilting. You have also taken me to a place in my life where I am grieving the loss of my younger sister, Mimi (1/21/2024…Progressive Supranuclear Palsy). Your videos bring me joy! I thank you immensely.
