  • Robert Downey Jr. hiding his face and laughing after the “Angela Bassett got an Oscar nomination for a Marvel movie…” joke is absolute gold 😂

This is John Mulaney’s audition to host the Oscars and to be a leading man. He passed with flying colors.
  • @ReservoirDolphin
I think it’s an absolute no-brainer to get an incredibly famous comedian who actually enjoys and respects the craft of filmmaking to host a film awards show. He’s gotta host the full show next time.
  • @cinefiend4059
I mean hosting just comes naturally with John. The delivery, the timing, both the reverence for the recipients and levity — absolutely masterful.

This is a MUCH better angle on a comedian's opening monologue. Original, funny, didn't have to take down the honorees. I'll bet every person in that room could relate to both of the letters!
  • @GarrettWatts
Who oh why on EARTH isn’t this man hosting the Oscars.
  • @robjgolde3221
Within 20 seconds he delivered “honor and a favor” “strategic obligation” “temporary stage” and “tuesday AA meeting at the palisades”. All solid jokes it rapid succession.
  • @ryanpadilla8118
There’s a certain pace u need as a host and John has it down 100%
  • @B-RollBooks
Is John Mulaney the only person on Earth who knows how to give an entertaining yet gracious opening monologue? It's been far too long since someone did this well at an awards show.
  • @jarodpearcy9789
John finally looks middle-aged. He found the fountain of youth but sobriety made him grow into an adult and it shows.
  • @niallkenyon9347
Easily the best Governors Awards opening monologue (I didn't know this existed until today and have not seen the other 13)
  • @olihhayes
The reason why John Mulaney works so well as a host is because he's one of the only comedians who doesn't need to be disrespectful in order to be funny
  • @tphillips37
This is how it's done! Sharp jabs, not mean spirited, and funny. He had 1 or 2 that didn’t land 100%, but he kept rolling instead of waiting for laughs that weren't coming. How is he reading notes and talking so smoothly at the same time? That's a hell of a talent.
  • @andrewknight2495
He’s genuinely honoring the crowd while making jokes. Jo Koy treated the golden globes like a roast. Infact, on this video right off the bat John roasts himself first before starting anything. I’m glad Mulaney found his way back to health and happiness.
  • I've never seen John Mulaney look so healthy. He's got blood in his skin, shine to his hair and mirth in his girth.
  • @jengomez6115
Well, John was not an SNL writer for nothing. He has a special way to captivate and entertain his audience.
  • @MrDlatto24
So well done. Funny, witty, no cringe. The type of comedy where you actually want to be called out as a guest. John is truly brilliant
