The Primarchs made a huge impact on the setting, but would the Space Marine legions have been better off without them?

Our first brothers needed father Sanguinius, he changed us from berserkers that would fall to chaos during the Horus Heresy, to artists and writers that stayed with the Emperor loyally.
-
Astarte Legions: "NOTICE US!!!" Primarchs who are dead, went missing or turn traitor: "Nooooo...."
-
No wonder GW kicked Vulkan out of the setting, the guy is literally too noblebright for 40k
-
If Angron hadn't received the nails from his friendly overlords he'd probably have been a good leader for the World Eaters, he was a decent dude to his gladiator buddies but once the brain spikes were hammered in he was done for.
-
As much as we rip on him. The Imperium has an absolute reliance on Rowboat Girlyman.
-
Magnus is also one of the few primarchs that genuinely loved his sons as a father, rather than as a general. And ironically one of, if not the most loyal primarch.
-
"No Alpharius means no Alpharius, which for all his sons means Alpharius" boom every bit of Alpha Legion lore in one sentence.
-
Every legion needs a primarch to spice things up... Except the world eaters , no one needs Angron.
-
4:35 “Either you die Rylonor, or live long enough to become Eribus”
-
Vulkan saved his sons because without him they would stretch themselves trying to save as many humans as possible untill they would all die... like the Terran ones almost did. Corvus got rid of almost all the Terran recruits because they were basicaly Nightlords doing terror tactics. Only one Terran served in his advisors. The rest were sent to die at the frontlines of the Crusade.

“You know, I’m a pig” Hey at least he’s honest

Mortarian also buggered the his legion's effectiveness. Before he turned them into the Death Guard, the Dusk Raiders used diverse tactics, specialising in low casualty, highly successful hist and run shock tactics and surgical use of overwhelming firepower. Then Mortarian made them mostly just tank damage and march at the enemy in plain sight. He was a shit leader and got way more of his Legion killed than needed to be.

I’m crying at your “The Emperor was so impressed with their metaphorical fisting that he called them the Imperial Fists” narrative
-
The Iron Warriors apparently keep sustaining high casualties even before meeting the primarch.
-
Angron - I always wonder what would have happened to Space Spartacus if he wasn’t butchered. With his sense of honour upon refusing to turn on his mentor, I’ll bet loyalist War Dogs would have been a true compliment on the battlefield to the Space Wolves. I do recall somewhere he was an empath, so a combination of Roman aesthetics, Space Wolves savagery, and the Salamanders’ humanity, would have made a solid loyal legion where it not for the nails.

But did any Astartes become pole dancers due to Primarch issues…? Slaneesh wants to know.

Magnus truly loved his sons, and his sons loved him too. He did everything for them and his sons did everything to save him. In a place of demons and evil, they're the ones who can actually forgive each other and some still retain their honor. The goals of the Thousand Sons are either save their father or legion, almost all their lore and books about them are just their selfless goals, almost none of them sought power for selfish goals or desire, everything was for their legion. Perhaps their love for each other turned them evil, to fight the fate set for your legion will surely break you. Many of the TS, for their love of their father, died reclaiming the shards of Magnus and trying to fix his soul. Amon in his grief and love for his brothers just wanted it all to end, to break the rubric and finally destroy his beloved legion, the thousand sons, so that all of them might finally find rest and peace. Ahriman is fighting fate, doing everything so that none of the remaining TS can be claimed by Chaos. He was horrified seeing them become deamon princes and mutated creatures, seeing these turned love into obsession. He became obsessed and will do anything to prevent this, kinda like the Emperor who will commit horrible atrocities to save mankind. Magnus inherited that obsession from the Emperor, and Ahriman inherited that obsession from Magnus. Truly like father like son.

Hearing “Lionel el Johnson punched one of his loyalist sons head off but he did it with love” reminds me of either penn or teller yelling “I LOVE YOU DOG!” At that scared chihuahua

The whole scenario of “What if they never found Horus?” should be a whole video.
