That's Incredible - Break dancing NYC old school

A video from That's Incredible when break dancing was just coming out, kicking it old school. I think this is from 1982. The way they used to do it.

I remember seeing this. It's from early 1982 if not late 1981. By late 1982 and especially 1983, the music they're dancing to was outdated. I remember a kid in my freshman class asked the teacher if he could demonstrate break dancing and it was the first time I had seen anything like that. The entire class was stunned. I don't remember the word hip hop in 1981-1982 and it was untainted by Hollywood because it was still underground. I miss those days when stuff like this was almost mystical, mysterious and very exciting.

Thanks so much for posting this! I was looking for it, not found by accident. This report made me take up breakin' in the 80's. I still have my black suede Pumas with the fat laces and my 'EZC' lettered belt buckle to this day.
  • This is a classic video! Thanks for posting it bro!!! Been looking for this one for 25 years!

This clip is from 1982. Back in 1982, Kid Nice's group was called 'The Floormasters', the same guys that battled the Rock Steady Crew at Negrils in 1982. Notice that there's no Fliprock, no Lil lep, and no Mr Wave; these people came in 1983.More to the point, notice how Chino (aka: Action) is struggling to do windmills in this clip. By 1984, Chino has perfected this move and frankly was one of the best to ever do it (view 'Beat Street' and 'Graffiti Rock'). So in summary, just the fact alone they called themselves "The Floormasters", this clips is likely from 1982.
  • "In the brownstone jungles where they live, there's only one thing as inevitable as street gangs...and that's music."
  • I’m glad this shows that leg over the head is not originated from “circus style”

    fordxbgtfalcon False! Aired in 82.
  • Back when rap/hip hop music and rap/hip hop culture was a curiosity in the 1980s and 1990s.
  • I still have this recorded on VHS too...but when they're breakin in front of the "that's incredible" audience, they were breakin to "Planet Rock" by Afrika Bambaataa....why does it have a different song here ?
  • You gotta love and respect the "simplicity" of their moves back then. When me and my crew just started out, it was this video that got us going and we thought they were awesome. Which they were.
