Rick Steves' Europe Travel Guide © 2008 | The creative spirit of Spain's Catalunya — the land of Picasso, Gaudí, and Salvador Dalí — is on a roll. We'll get caught up in the festivity of Barcelona, enjoying the vibrant street scenes, tasty tapas, and pedestrian-friendly Gothic Quarter. Then we'll take a scenic side trip to mountaintop Montserrat, and finish with an artist's pilgrimage along the Costa Brava to Salvador Dalí country. In seaside Cadaques, we'll visit Dalí's home, and in nearby Figueres, we'll experience his playfully surreal mausoleum/museum. #ricksteves #ricksteveseurope #catalunya

  • I remember years ago when I dreamed of traveling to Europe. I was a homemaker raising my two children while my husband worked. I folded clothes, cooked and cleaned and watched Rick Steves, and just dreamed. I am on my way to my 5th trip to Europe, in a few days to Barcelona. I thank God for allowing me to live my dream to visit some of the most beautiful places. This was what my husband told me to do before he passed.

Just returned from a travel companies escorted tour of Spain. Today, looking back at Rick Steves' Spain videos, I realize I missed so much of the artists of Barcelona on the tour I just took. I want to return to Barcelona. Commenting on June 6, 2023.

The Picasso piece on this one is pure excellence!
  • Wow, Wow, Wow! So beautiful Barcelona & Catalunya! Such a culture rich & amazing region. Pablo Picasso's amazing talents, just leave me in amazement & awe! He was indeed a true Master of creativity on canvas. His varying artistic style on canvas, showcases just how talented he actually was. I just love his oil painting, "First Communion". It's simply....divine, specifically in all it's finer detail. His sister's fine, pretty & soft flowing "veil", just WOW!!! The realism in all detail, specifically on human faces, is just incredible. I really love & appreciate travel, i love Spain's beauty and cultural diversity & this is so interesting & fun to watch! Thanks for sharing & happy travels to Rick & to all!
  • That whole corner of Spain is one of my favs in the world. Couple hours to France & an incredible WINDING coastal road to travel too.

One of my favourite cities! I love it so much that I’m seriously thinking about moving there. I know how to speak Spanish, so it’s easier for me to go live there. I love their cannabis culture, clubs and how free the people seem to be. So many food options and streets to explore! Absolutely love this place. I’ve been on vacation there for 10 days this August and I also visited Monserrat. 🙂

I’m mexican and several parts of the city when it comes to architecture look very similar to Mexico, that’s pretty interesting.
