I played games all through the 90's, but this is one of the first that I remember actually beating all the way through.

One of my favourite games of all time, so happy to see it be reevaluated as the ambitious title it is, rather than just leaning on the whole "rocky trandition to 3D" angle... Keep up the good work, I love your channel!

Worth noting that Senoue also worked in Sonic 3D Blast, which was essentially Adventure's predecessor. Even the Twinkle Park music theme is a remix of the same theme that was left unused in 3D Blast's 1996 soundtrack. And of course, Windy Valley's theme - Green Grove 2.0.

10:00 just a correction but she was never originally called that. The US manual for Sonic CD just messed that up for some reason
  • Man you deserve so many more followers! I just watched your video on Yoshi's island and now I wanna watch all your videos of the games I like

Spread the word boys. We're getting this channel to 20K subscribers
  • By saying that the spin dash and momentum was never really utilized, you clearly haven't tried to skip a large portions of the levels by correctly spin dashing off of certain slopes.

10:01 Amy Rose was previously known as Princess Sally? Hmm... I think you got some info mixed up. Amy Rose used to be known as Rosy the Rascal. Princess Sally is an entirely different, unrelated character.

You failed to mention how both Navi and Tikal are hint giver mechanics integrated into the narrative. But where Navi is still derisively mocked to the point of bullying, no one had anything o complain about Tikal.

You can alternatively call this video "In Defense of Sonic Adventure", since it feels far more commonplace to dunk on this game than praise it. It doesn't help that Sonic fans tend to insist that the original Dreamcast version is better than the GameCube and subsequent HD ports of this game, which are the versions most widely available. I remember playing the GameCube port back in the day and while it wasn't one of the best games I played, I still enjoyed it. I never thought it was bad, even though the voice acting and cutscenes are pretty ridiculous by today's standards (as was the sound editing). I get the feeling that this was the beginning of the Sonic franchise's diminishing reputation; it feels like from here it went from "Sonic doesn't work in 3D" to "modern Sonic games suck" and ultimately to the unfortunately pervasive idea that "Sonic the Hedgehog was never good, actually", which isn't true yet still sticks around because I guess dunking on Sonic is the mainstream thing to do nowadays. Not that certain Sonic games don't deserve criticism, but man, it feels like the reception of the Sonic franchise is a mess, even by its own inconsistent fanbase.

Everything. There, I have answer thy question.

But I didn't mind the Skychase Zones!

This game has the best-controlling Sonic and best 3D level design of the series, the hub worlds are great and the music is amazing. However, most of the content aside from the Sonic stages is mediocre or outright bad, with radically different gameplay just for the sake of diversity and showing off the Dreamcast's technical capabilities. I think it's still a very good game despite its flaws, but if each character had their own, original levels with the same objective as Sonic (get to the finish line before time runs out) it would've been a much better and more consistent experience.

But I don't have a problem with Big!
