Will the MG Stay? - What About the Trading Up Series?

Publicado 2024-06-18
It started with a free Renault Clio that I fixed up and sold for a profit. Later I purchased a 1970 Morris 1300 that I also fixed up and sold for a profit. Now I have traded to a British sports car! A 1998 MGF!
Will the MG be staying? What about the trading up series?

  • I think if your wife likes it that’s a good reason to keep it around as she supports you and the channel . I have the use of a small convertible (slk) they such fun in summertime
  • It might be prudent to do the cam belt now. Things can get postponed by events. Belt failure could trash the motor, which would be really sad.
  • I have an mg tf.135 and brought it as a mid life crisis and I must say despite the the doom and gloom brigade I love driving it I to suffer from arthritis but as a 64 year old that's only to be expected. As for your channel keep rescuing classes and save them from the crusher. Also long as you enjoy what your doing carry on doing it.😇😇😇

Use toothpaste to cleanup the rear plastic window. It will also help to remove the fogging in the plastic window. Yes, just cheap toothpaste will do wonders for old convertible windows.
  • Hi Adam, I would love to see you doing the trading up with small classics. Love the MG.
  • @sportshatch
Hi Adam, would like to see you buying and fixing up some cheap classic cars. It would be interesting to compare prices in Sweden to other countries.

Hi, I would prefer a new trading up series. Keep up the good work. 👍
  • I think you can continue the trading up séries even if you keep this one (which I would do) but swap it with another car of your fleet with a similar value to continue the trading chaîn
  • When u mentioned your wife's joint condition I have always wondered the reason u stay in Sweden ? Yuma , AZ USA is a location where thousands come for the winter from northern states and other countries . I know rain and snow with cold weather is hard on people with joint pain and other health conditions . For auto repair and preservation we have ideal conditions .

Good idea to continue with trading up-series. What about old Volvo’s, Saab’s or ofcourse Jaguars which can be bought for say 1500-2500 euro’s?
  • I have a '97 Mark 1 MX-5 that I did a bare shell restoration on during the Pandemic, and if it's not snowing or raining, the tops never up.

If this beauty stays in the fleet might I suggest fitting a pair of 'anti locking hood straps'. You fit these on the inside between 2 metal bars so that the hood goes down smooth without one of the metal bars jamming every time.
  • How about a cheap Saab convertible to fix up, 9-3's are cheap and although once common getting rarer now, also comfortable seats for four
  • Some WD40 on those boot hinges old chap, or better still, painted on the pins with a coat of copper slip.

Hi Adam here is my take on this it's a great car the K engine is very reliable and your wife likes this car and enjoys driving so happy wife happy life keep the MGF and buy some cheap cars to fix up and sell on that's just my opinion as always best regards Andy Allen

Maybe trade up to a MGTF 160. Just that little bit better. Mine is a 140 but still great. BTW I am also fixing up a 1987 XJS 3.6.
  • Hi Adam, the car is nice in summertime, but in Sweden it is a short period. Make sure your wife will get something warmer for the rest of the year given her condition…😊
  • Nice you are having fun with that little Chinese MG. Nothing like an open roadster.
