Imunne system: AAAA THREAT! ALERT! Water: Im good for you! An ally! Immune system: Thats just what you want us to think.

i'm allergic to heat, though less so as an adult than when I was a kid-- a hot shower makes me break out in itchy hives. my cousin is allergic to any sudden temperature change, hot or cold-- so both showers and swimming are hard for her. nice to see it talked about here, since I've had a handful of interactions where I mentioned this to people and they flat-out didn't believe me because they didn't think it was possible. immune systems are weird!
  • I went through a period when I really thought I had a water allergy, as each shower would render me useless for an hour or so afterward, just lying under my sheets, clawing my arms and legs nonstop, due to the itching that was beyond itching, like thousands of stingy electric shocks occurring. For some reason it was mainly my upper arms and thighs, but also butt and stomach to some extent. And yes, sometimes my trachea would spasm and feel tight, like after crying. I tried all kinds of things and even considered getting an expensive filter on my shower, but even rain or just high humidity could trigger severe itching so I knew it wasn't anything in my city's water. Then one day I tried applying coconut oil in the shower, after reading a tip about it. But all it did was leave me greasy; hot water didn't rinse it completely away, nor did a towel. And I was still left itching like crazy as usual, but the nice thing I noticed was the lubrication of the oil made scratching more effective ....then.... I noticed something gross: grayish colored oil collecting wherever I raked it, meaning dirt. So I grabbed a plastic bank card and started scraping it from my upper arm, kind of fascinated at this point. And the craziest thing happened; I saw all these tiny, nearly transparent hairs spring up from the skin wherever I'd just scraped, kind of slowly like a butterfly coming out of its' cocoon. It turned out all the places where I thought my skin was just bumpy was actually TONS of ingrown hairs, and getting moist aggravated them. Since then I have just made a point to exfoliate extensively a couple times a month, and never had the electric post-shower itch ever again.

You know what else isn't fun? Finding out you're allergic to Morphine after a huge and painful surgery. It makes me feel like some huge weight is pressing down on my chest and I can't breathe. Now imagine that after a surgery inside of your chest... Yeah...

I'm allergic to my own sweat. Yes, it was diagnosed by a dermatologist. If sweat remains too long on my skin, I get hives on that area. I have to rinse it off quickly after exercise. During spring and summer, depending on the weather I have to shower at least 2 or 3 times a day, or else I get hives on the inside of my arms, armpits, around my neck, groin, and behind the knees. Generally I deal with it by rinsing with cold water and not scratching .If it gets too bad, I have antihistamine cream.
  • I used to know a girl who was allergic to cold, she lived in Chicago, which really sucked because whenever she walked out into the cold she would break out in hives, not extremely severe though.

When your immune system gets bored, bad things happen. #7 sounds like a nightmare...

when your allergic to antihistamines and really any other form of allergy relief, things get interesting

I had a friend who was allergic to the cold. The swelling looked so bizarre and painful! Because we live somewhere cold, she received a disability flag for her car so she could get accessible parking at stores, making her walks to the door quicker and less likely to have a swollen airway.

When I was a child, I used to get an allergic reaction from sunlight. I can't remember exactly when I grew out of it but it hasn't happened in a looooong while. Fingers crossed I didn't just jinx it.
  • @Serveanthesia
You know what's fun too? Having allergic reactions when you aren't allergic to anything... mast cell activation disorder.... so much fun...
  • @sting2071232
Finally I can show someone else that yes, that it is a really thing to be allergic to the cold. When you stand outside waiting for the bus in northern Michigan for an hour in winter and you suddenly get covered In hives, now I have a name.
  • @wheelslifts851
The touch one was much more interesting when I thought for some reason that they could think of something and the allergy would write it on their arm. I havent slept in 3 days.

    I have dermographism. It's honestly weird. I love how people get weirded out when I scratch my skin for example. + my skin itches ;-;
  • @That_Ozian
I’m allergic to the cold. Cold water in particular. I can drink it fine but I can’t swim in it or have it on my skin for too long. I get really bad hives and sometimes I can’t breathe.
  • @SimuLord
People who are allergic to clapping their hands should probably become Cleveland Browns fans. Safer that way.
  • @aarya1467
I don't have any allergy after reading the comments section I have never been more grateful 😅
  • @michimelody4036
Damn mast cells. I'm actually about to be tested for mast cell activation syndrome soon.
