Sammy is the man, and a great interviewer for artists!
  • I find Nuno such a breath of fresh air never afraid to admit to things, never afraid to pay homage to those who have inspired him never afraid to admit he's grabbing riffs from his heroes too (and what musician, dancer, singer, etc. HASN'T?? That's how it all keeps evolving to the next level!)... and the man is in a class of his own too with a guitar. But... he always looks BAKED!! Wtf Nuno?!! I have the same high regard for Gary too. The man never seems to have a bad thing to say about anyone... ever!! I feel Gary's voice was right up there to hang with Van Halen, but that album VHIII was clearly poorly produced and had Ted Templeman been on that project? I believe he most likely would have measured this mix up to more of what Van Halen would have still sounded like Van Halen rather than Extreme. Don't get me wrong, King Edward still has King Edward riffs and originality, but the proverbial EDGE to this LP just did not exist. Just my opinion, but love all these guys and if you can't get alone with them, something is not right.

Great interview. Ran across Nuno a couple years back in Nashville, at Carter Vintage. Amazing player no doubt about it!
  • Wow, Nuno is very much a philosopher. I always enjoyed Extreme music, but I think Nuno is top shelf. Great seeing a rock star with their head on straight!

I'm in a time warp.... I swear I saw this EXACT Interview Years ago!

  • I just recently got the Gary Van Halen... there are some really good songs on there.. are they all great. no... but it doesnt deserve the grief... the new Extreme is fantastic. if you havent listened... you should go and hear it

No better front man for a guy like EVH than David Lee Roth. What a dynamic duo they were as frontman and guitar player. A great match.
  • @24theMoney
Wasn't Alex Van Halen's brother in law the manager for Extreme or something like that?

The Liliac Band is on everything I own !!!!!!!!!!! Sammy, you need to have the Lilac Band on your show!!!

I saw Gary perform with VH and I thought that he lacked nothing in terms of energy, running around the entire place, and that he suited where the songwriting for the band was going at that time (which was very different from anything prior). Actually EVH himself wasn't all that full of energy, and made one or two fluffs (which of course I think any of us would quickly forgive). I'm just saying that I think Gary was doing his level best to carry the weight at that time. Hopefully at some point his period will get some better recognition also
  • I don't think Extreme is a bad band at all. They have their definite place in the rock & roll kingdom. And I think that solo on rise sat a whole generation of shredders and tappers down
  • Well shucks. Sammy & Gary didn't talk about their experiences in Van Halen as much as I was expecting/hoping....
