A meteorologist reporting on a tornado was worried about what was going on at home. James Spann of ABC 33/40 was warning his viewers of tornadoes ripping through neighborhoods in Alabama, when he realized his house might be in the path. So he texted his wife to warn her. He kept viewers updated throughout the live coverage, which went on for hours. He even stepped away from the broadcast for a while and returned with another update from home. Him contacting his wife probably encouraged a lot more people to contact their loved one

For yall that don't know, This beautiful man is James Spann, he stayed on the air during 4/27/2011 for 8 hours straight covering the tornado outbreak, had his home sustain major damage yesterday and still stayed on the air, maintained professionalism throughout the entire thing, and is probably the closest thing to the most respected man in the state of Alabama.
  • As a Alabamian, I do must say, James is one of the best meteorologist. The fact his house was hit by the tornado, yet he continued to make sure his state was safe and aware. He is a great man.

Some people could say he was being unprofessional but he is a living angel. He even said sorry. God bless that man.
  • He not only saved his wife by doing that, but he made people see how serious the situation was and caused other people to call and text their loved ones, friends and coworkers. He’s a hero

This is my meteorologist, he is a good man, the funny thing about him is if the weather or any kind of severe weather gets worse, then he takes off his tie or his suspenders showing how bad it is. He is a great meteorologist and has been doing it for about 40 years!
  • He probably was worried about his wife. Caring about family members is usually important especially during these types of weather alerts.

This is James Spann, our beloved meteorologist in Alabama. I have watched him since the early 90s. This man works tirelessly trying to protect people. His knowledge about Alabama is unmatched. He can tell you any and everything there is to know about Alabama. Many sleepless nights for this man. A true professional. The day he retires, will be a sad day for us all. He's a treasure.

He stayed on the air for several more hours, even after his house was hit. Just wanted to make sure his wife was okay, then he kept on keeping on. For everyone that isn't from here, James Spann is probably the most well-known and beloved person on local television in the state of Alabama. He is absolutely amazing, as a forecaster and a person. He takes his job very seriously and has dedicated his entire career to helping keep the people of Alabama informed, prepared, and safe. He knows every single road in every single city, even in the towns I've never heard of, and he knows specific landmarks in those towns right off the top of his head without referencing maps! The amount of lives he has saved is probably astronomical at this point. I'm telling you, he is a hero. We appreciate you more than you could know, Spann, and I'm so glad your wife is okay!

  • James Spann is a wonderful human! I remember him visiting my school in elementary school teaching us about tornado safety. He knows Alabama terrain like the back of his hand and does all he can to save as many lives as possible.

Can't fault him on that one. Good for him and glad she's safe. He probably helped viewers realize how serious it is by doing that. Good man.
