  • I also like to make sure I choose the windiest day for this as well. Makes it more fun.

For all the internet experts, fabric works, and it’s far easier to pull weeds from mulch and on top of the fabric than deep rooted weeds in dirt. We have used cardboard or newspaper under the fabric and it works great. Still needs once a month maintenance but far better than before. It just not the greatest for soil health long term. We recently switch to pine bark and use 4-6 inches deep and very few weeds. So far it’s been the same or better than fabric.
  • To be honest this way does work. I have 8 flowerbeds, and I use painting sheeting and then mulch and I never had a weed problem. It's been 7yrs. I also use the same sheeting for my driveway then added stone and I do not have not 1 weed in my driveway. But my neighbor laugh at me and said I like to work hard.5yrs later just the other day he stated he wish he did what I did in my driveway. I just lol and said yes hard work does pay off.

Step one to using landscape fabric is to throw it in the trash
  • I came here for all the “you’re doing it wrong” pros and you guys didn’t disappoint 😂
  • Dont use fabric on mulch. Google why! I own a landscaping business and i only use on rocks and i will use a more durable material. You are not fighting weeds with fabric. Just keeping your rocks from disappearing into the ground over the years. You will always fight weeds. That’s why you charge weed control monthly if you do maintenance as well 👍🏼
  • Love it when the junipers and other shrubs start rooting overtop of the fabric.
  • Came for landscaping info... impressed by the use of Nigerian music!
  • If you guys don’t want to use fabric you can also use plain cardboard and that will dissolve slowly and organically into the soil
  • I ripped all the fabric out and used cardboard. Works, and provides organic material to the garden.
  • Do not plant so close to foundation…..you’ll regret it years down the road…..
  • EXCELLENT VIDEO. Thanks for stating that the fabric should be tightly stapled. That’s what I did but i wasn’t sure if that was correct. 🌸
  • use newspaper or cardboard instead, then mulch..Don't use fabric..
  • I love my landscape fabric. Yes i get occasional weeds, usually after a year, but they're not growing through the fabric. They actually grow on top the fabric as the mulch breaks down and turns to soil for weed seeds and grass seeds to grow in. Rather than struggling to pull those pesky weeds/grass out of my hard clay soil, pulling them from the top of the fabric is so much easier.

Decided to do some yardwork at new home and discovered i have two fabric layers with mulch on top of a rock layer on top of a third fabric layer and weeds growing all way through lol.

I can’t believe the amount of people saying they don’t put fabric down between mulch and the ground. I’ve owned and operated a landscaping company for almost 3 years and we do it on each and every mulch install.
