Customer Karen Says she wants us to drive on her driveway AGAIN after we allegedly damaged it?

Published 2021-10-01
Hey everyone so this is a reupload from last year, We pulled up to this customer's house did a quick easy decking delivery. The day was a bit cooler, mid spring if memory serves us correctly. We noticed the asphalt was still fresh but we made no sharp turns or anything to get the delivery to the end of the driveway. we took pictures of it last time and you can even seen here that there was no visible damage. When we showed up to the shipper however we were notified that she wanted to file a claim for "obliterating" the customers driveway. The Store manager seen the photos and agreed the customer was over dramatic and agreed on this next delivery for the customers second delivery it would be left curbside.

We try to help people as much as we can but with situations like that where the Manager at the shipper and our company agreed to leave it curbside..... The rest the customer can figure out. Also the customer stated we weren't supposed to be there until tomorrow: We the delivery company have no control over the scheduling of the product and that is to be delivered, That is setup with the shipper.

It’s definitely a sign of the world we live in when you need to record every move you make.

As a tow truck driver I dealt with A LOT of situations just like this. The first time a complaint was received when I was trying to assist a customer more than required, my manager told me something that has stuck with me for 20 years now, "no good deed goes unpunished". My manager was a wise man.

You handled that with professionalism. Well done. She filed a claim and then wants you drive on the drieway AGAIN? Yea, NO.
  • My father was a truck driver and my brother is one now. I appreciate what y'all do. Dealing with people like this must be exhausting.

If your asphalt driveway is newly laid and still not set you should really cordon it off and not schedule deliveries until it's ready to be driven on

she’s like a child, it’s everyone else’s issue aside from her: you, the contractor, your company, other drivers, other people stealing her stuff. never once was she like “i really got myself in a situation by being difficult and problematic. i’m sorry.”
  • She seemed like a fairly reasonable lady all things considered wasnt overly agressive and when she realized you werent gonna do it she didnt get mean or nasty she just said its alright i’ll deal with it

"Burn me once, shame on you; burn me twice, shame on me," is the adage I'd live by too. Boggles the mind that people like her can't understand her prior actions resulted in doing EXACTLY what the delivery type was.

You actually gave her the light of day to explain to her, so I’d say you treated her pretty well.

She is the type to think everyone is trying to rip her off so she takes control of deliveries and what not but then is upset when she realizes she can't handle anything at all on her own.

I have to give the lady a bit of credit here. Once she understood what was going on, she seemed pretty nice. I'm sure aggravations come from being a homeowner getting hit with unexpected costs. Might have been the issue. Maybe not. But she was pretty understanding once our host let her know what's going on.

So she complained that he left tyre marks on her drive way........then wants him to do it again!! People do not understand how hard it is to be a lorry driver!!!
  • @country8184
Now she will always get true curbside delivery. I'm sure the contractor was treated badly as well which is why he dumped everything on her
  • I love when people can get back at these Karens by doing exactly what the Karen wants but causes great inconvenience to her.😅
  • I love how she tried to brush the complaint under the rug. “It’s ok now, I decided to live with it.”
  • You handled this as best as possible. I'm sure her contractor is dealing with BS also.
  • @ricks.1318
She wasted like 20 mins of your day, Mike, .... BUT, on the other hand, ... You patience and calm explanation of REALITY, made her realize that she "shot herself in the foot" after she filed a complaint on you, after the FIRST delivery !! SOME folks just take LONGER for REALITY to "sink IN" ...... LOL
  • I love it. Good for you! I own an auto repair shop in Los Angeles and I’ve never forgotten the few people in the last 10 years who have tried to screw me over. They think that with time passing, we will forget them and what they tried. Nope. I always send them away even if they’re being dropped by a tow truck or pleading with me to help them. Not even remotely interested, and I also call the local shops I work with and let them know who it is, what they drive and what they did so they avoid the same headache. It’s so delicious when it happens! Lol
