Angry Customer says "I'm refusing the delivery unless you can get it to the backyard" reup

Published 2022-08-25
Good morning everyone so today we had a delivery going to this customer in which we gave them an hour call ahead and he had a whole attitude on the phone before we even got there which is the story you were hearing when the video first turned on. pulled up to the customer's house and he doesn't understand what a curbside delivery means and then begins to tell us that he doesn't want the material unless we can fit it through a gate by wiggling the machine through and we had not even seen what the site looks like so we offer to just take the material off and see what we can do when we got up there but that wasn't good enough for him. Customer refused to order We ended up bringing the order back to the shipper.

Here's the update video:    • Update video: Angry Customer says "I'...

Brand new house. Went to deliver all the appliances. Karen at the door said that if we got so much as a spec of dust or dirt inside the house she would sue. Called the manager and he said "Bring it all back". We did. Life is too short to take it seriously or to deal with Karens.

Anyone who says the customer is always right have never dealt with customers.

Delivered for years, had a delivery of 40 sheets of drywall once, guy said your lucky only half go up stairs, I laughed a told him I'm lucky because we deliver curbside only. Have a nice day.

I have a great deal of empathy for anyone that has to make their living dealing with the public !
  • Very easy fix: don't argue with them, don't negotiate, just say "ok, I'll take it back" and then take it back and let the warehouse charge them a restocking fee..customer gets what he wants (which is the refusal of the load), driver gets paid, warehouse gets paid for lost time

That buyer strikes me as a person with and abusive personality and a control issue. Props for handling it like a professional.

Don't even engage with jerks like that. I'm paid for curb side delivery, this is your curb. Have a nice day.
  • Imagine having that jerk as a neighbor. Or a boss. Or a customer. His stern, condescending tone tells me he's had lots of practice treating people this way his whole life.

I love how he said you bought the wrong materials anyway and at 3:55 he said everything was good. He's a piece of work!

As a former Home Depot delivery driver I dealt with customers like this a lot. Even to the point of being yelled and screamed at. Told customer numerous times to call the store and complain to them. I'm just here to pick up or drop of your stuff.
  • I had a delivery last year. Driver was familiar to me. I asked if he could put my delivery in my barn. He tried, but it was a no go. He bumped the wall on the way out and left a little dent. Then he tried to tell me where to send the repair bill. I said, “There won’t be a bill. You were trying to do me a favor. This was my fault. Thanks for trying!” I appreciate these drivers.

The first time this happened to me, it taught me never ever unstrap/unsheet/open curtainsides/ unchain/ open container without first checking there would be no unloading issues......saves time in the long run.

Good thing he strapped it back down and bailed. This buyer seems to be the type who would falsely blame you for damaging a gate etc. and then file a claim to get a free delivery or some discount.
  • Chris, I agree! The trucker offered to get the material as close as possible which is already above and beyond what the customer paid for. Good thing the trucker filmed this with his phone. Many times these customers will lie about the delivery person and say that they were insulting, threatening and/or used bad language. I have over 30 yrs of managment experience in delivery companies and I've seen this. However, there are folks out there who are friendly to drivers, offer them water and may even tip the driver. Those customers make that drivers day.

I bought a 275 gallon oil tank from HD and paid for the shipping. They told me they would bring it in the driveway but the rest was up to me. They told me that 5 times, I laughed and told them I got it. The dropped it off in the driveway as promised and as agreed to. No way this dummy didn't know it was curbside delivery.
  • @ellkir1521
Invariably they call up the shipper and accuse the driver of all kinds of abusive behavior and refusing to drop off. Good thing you have the creep on video.
  • as a delivery driver heres some words of advice, when a customer tells you to do something your not supposed to or they will refuse, just say have a great day and take it back. saves time, energy and stress and you have every right to do so. I hope you still get paid for the attempt!
  • You could tell from the outset the customer was already in a foul mood and then when he didn't get the response from you that he wanted , he then said the order was all wrong. Yeah the Customer is NEVER AWAYS RIGHT...in the head

A few years ago, I ordered a large amount of lumber to build a deck in my backyard. I paid for curbside delivery, which I knew meant at the curb. However, after chatting up the driver for a short while, I asked if he could help me get the load into the garage, which would save me a lot of work. At first, he hesitated, saying that technically he wasn't supposed to do that. However, he agreed to meet me more than halfway. He offered to back into the driveway and get it as close to the garage as he could. I was grateful and thanked him for his extra effort. After he left, I carried the boards one at a time into the garage, which was a lot easier given that it was close to the garage. The experience illustrates one of the most important lessons my parents taught me: treat people with courtesy and respect, especially if you want something from them that you haven't paid for. This lesson about respect applies to everyone: teachers, delivery workers, store clerks, police officers, and anyone who has to deal with the public. It boggles my mind that so many people think that piss and vinegar will get them what they want in life.

You handled it well. We are always nice to EVERY vendor because they have to deal with tea sippers like this guy
