Staffan here. I just wanna write some words. First of all. I am out of this world grateful to have a friend & brother like Thomas, who gives me the courage to travel to a place like this. I would not dare by myself, but it's clear that friendships without judgment when fear hits definitely give superpowers. I hope you have that or will find that in your life as well. And then I wanna encourage everyone to keep spreading love over fear in this world. Just as our new sister Julia is doing and the Babushksas we met. My dad told me during USSR era he and around 50 Bulgarians - construction engineers were sent to Belarus to help building new concrete buildings in Minsk. He also had a girlfriend from there and were constantly communicating via messages through the post. As I am looking the people they are not that much different compared to each and every slavic people from eastern Europe. I wish Belarus only positive things.

The fact you couldn't get someone willing to be a translator speaks volumes... lucky you ran into a fan of the channel. You still manage to find the best people in every culture.

I am originally from Belarus, but 3 years ago I had to leave the country after a KGB interrogation. Like many others, I was persecuted for my views and activism. I can't go back now and seeing home streets on the channel I've been following since I was in school is a wild experience. Thank you for this video. People looking not happy is normal in bellarus, russia, ukraine, etc. its also not custom to greet anyone on the streets. For you to speak english in their country they probably just wonder, "what the hell would you go to this country for". this is what i experiance after i just came back yesterday from my journey to ukraine
