Season 10, Episode 04 'Lunacy': After famous astronaut Marga Janssen’s corpse is found afloat in the waters of Battery Park, Detectives Elliot Stabler and Olivia Benson initially believe the murder is linked to a string of serial rapes. Upon further investigation, this theory is proven false when their suspect’s alibi checks out. At a dead end, Detective Stabler turns to his old mentor and former colleague of Janssen’s, NASA astronaut Dick Finley to shed some light on the case. Finley’s advice exposes several more suspects, but possibly takes the detectives further from the truth.

"2018 is a long way away." Uhh... man... it's weird seeing this in 2024.

“You had the nerve to shake my boys hand” 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂gotta love stabler
  • You hear the hurt in Elliot voice when he confronts his mentor about what he’s done 😔😔😔😔
  • Colonel Finley was like a father to Elliot. Hell, he was the closest thing to a father that Elliot ever had. To find out that this man who he looked up to so much, heck, he named your firstborn son after, is a liar and a murderer. I don't even wanna know how Elliot was able to sleep that night.

I love how in all the L&O franchise shows that even friends or mentors of the detectives are secret culprits
  • Munch asking for an astronaut's autograph was the cherry on top of this episode 😂
  • @RandomBurner
Olivia’s face in the thumbnail when she finds out the final villain is Fin lol
  • @Nilaues
"Like a boat propellor." Yeah uh, that's totally what I was thinking of too. Definitely not considering some kind of animal, nope, not me.
  • For those wondering this episode dropped in 1999 so 2018 was in fact a long way off for them.

James Brolin was a great guest star. This episode was sad! Elliot looked up to Colonel Richard Finley and even named his son after him. I also enjoyed Elliot’s discomfort at him wanting to hook up with Olivia. 😂 Season 10, episode 4 “Lunacy”

Title is very misleading, makes me think he went on a spree
  • @TheHuntermj
She wouldn't have been going back to space anyway after spending so much time in space and having the bones of a 65 year old!
  • I wonder if the casting of James Brolin as an astronaut had something to do with his performance in "Capricorn One", a movie where he plays an astronaut in a faked Mars landing.

Very powerful ending for this episode. James Brolin was an excellent guest star.
