My Leg Cramp Was DVT. DON'T IGNORE A PERSISTANT LEG CRAMP!

Published 2021-08-12
DVT - Deep Vein Thrombosis.
Multiple blood clots in the leg in my case.
I didn't travel for a long period of time on a plane or train or anything like the ads say.
I'm just a busy single mum bustling about everywhere to get things done before her kid gets home from school - I walk everywhere!

I didn't understand that a non-stop leg cramp in my left leg for over a week that actually rendered the leg "immobile" was such a massive cause for concern that I should have gone to The Doctors.

I thought I would be laughed at for having a cramp!

I thought "the muscle will uncramp soon enough and you'll be fine" and tried to carry on with my day.

I'm grateful my exercise physiotherapist came on Thursday and noticed one leg was incredibly swollen.
I don't see the size difference, but since HE was weirded out enough and saying "DVT - I'm sure its DVT" THAT was enough to set some alarm bells ringing.

After he left, I made a call to a phone nurses service who can assess you and their concern had me worried.

I went to hospital, but I was seen so late that the ultrasound machine had been closed off and the specialists gone home.

Since the treating doctor agreed it was Deep Vein Thrombosis, I was given a blood thinner and told to come back in the morning.

I was admitted super early from ER.

I got my Ultrasound.
Asking the lady doing the Ultrasound questions and just watching her face was traumatic.

I could not believe how many LARGE clots there were and how far beyond simply my leg - why into my stomach? No idea.

But I agreed to surgery where they would remove the clots and put in the stent.
I could have taken my thigh high pressure stocking and some blood thinners with me and just left today, but really you're only looking in the short term if you "cut and run".

I've spent so many nights crying for my son in emergency respite. I know he's resilient, but I just want to hold him more than anything in this world.

I haven't done anything that the media says gives you Deep Vein Thrombosis like being on a long flight or sitting still for hours because I'm a single mum and we don't have TIME to be still.

I just want to go home tomorrow, change my life and become the better person that I've always dreamed of becoming.

Think happy thoughts fam, just think happy thoughts💗🙂

Disco out✌

  • I'm home <3 I have to wear a waist-high pressure stocking on my left leg and I am on blood thinners now. But I'm alive :) I'm making serious life style changes now and will of course speak with my therapist about what I've been through. It's been difficult to process all of this. And my beautiful boy is doing well, I saw him yesterday. A new chapter in my life begins.
