I am a woman in my 70s. I clean in a hospital. Though what I am doing may seem mundane, I am happy doing it. Might it be that helping my family financially, completing tasks that benefit my coworkers and the patients, and being active and engaged with others may be the source of ā€œmeaningā€ even when pushing a mop, and cleaning a toilet? Happiness is a choice.

"bureaucracy is where imagination and creativity go to die"... wow I appreciate you putting this to words
  • "Orgiastic whining" - such a great, on-point description! Both Flo and Gad are just excellent in their descriptions, diction and speaking styles.

Excellent interview. At age 62, I would add that the advent of social media and everyone staring at screens all day is making people miserable and young people suicidal. The relentless fear mongering from the 24/7 news cycle with resultant bombardment of information causes stress. The smart phone tracking our every move and everything digital including music, movies, shopping and finance/banking will end up in misery and enslavement to the "powers that be".

And to think, some 338 years ago people believed that we were entering an Age of Enlightenment, an Age of Reason. This century is defined by the flight from reason tied to moral and physical cowardice.
  • Respect to Flo Read as a knowledgeable, insightful and considerate hostess. This conversation is a true pleasure to listen to.

Flo is an incredible interviewer. With a knowledgeable, articulate and intelligent manner, the conversation just flows (pun intended) smoothly between topics. It is an absolute pleasure to watch.

"unicornia" what an exceptional description of castles in the air built on wishful thinking...
  • @RichardEnglander
There is a difference between solitude and loneliness that many seem to miss.

Holy smoke, i live in France, which is lower on the happy chart than Germany, and they don't even know how to laugh.

Flo sharp and fluent, bringing the very best out of Gad - and how vital and engaging and convincing a speaker he always is. Top marks.

Gaad is the real deal. There is also a lack of communality outside religion. People are going less to the movies, theaters, music shows, sports events, clubs, bars, parties and experiencing less things as a collective. Those experiences became either too expensive or made to look less convenient by technology.

The value of deferred gratification. Truly underrated.

  • @2Oldcoots
Dr. Saad is brilliant and the interviewer is excellent because she: understands the subject matter; asks penetrating questions; and allows Dr. Saad to give in depth answers without interruption!

People like Dr. Saad save me from despair.šŸ™
  • The good news about postmodernism is that applying postmodernism to postmodernism, postmodernism is a social construct and is irrelevant.
  • @RichardEnglander
There is a difference between happiness and pleasure. Lots of pleasures wont bring happiness.

How refreshing to hear some real, common sense, modern wisdom. Thank you both. ā¤
