I remember playing this song over & over & over again at my grandma’s house when I was about 5. Lost touch with it & never knew who sang it. Heard it again in my 40’s & now play it to reminisce about those long ago days. Still love it. Thank you Johnny Horton

Johnny Horton recorded for less than a decade, but amassed one of the most impressive legacies in all of music. Arguably, Sink The Bismarck is one of his finest moments.

The Bismarck was first hit by a torpedo fired by a British Kingfisher torpedo bomber. The torpedo hit the Bismarck's rudders, and was locked into sailing in a circle. Then the onslaught of shells began. The crew of the Bismarck scuttled the boat at the Captain's order. This was confirmed when Bismarck was discovered by Dr. Robert Ballard of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution using his deep-submersible drone, Alvin. Alvin also found the Titanic and other lost ships.
  • I live in England and love country music. Johnny horton and American music is the best. I’d give anything to go back in time and actually meet him. True legend

About 7 months later from this performance, the legendary "Johnny Horton's' life came to an abrupt end. What a great loss and what a talent.

I remember as a 12 year old pestring my Dad to put a quarter in the jute box at a cafe and play the battle of New Orleans by Johnny Horton. He finally gave in and played it for me. Back then they had things on your table that connected to the jute box, you dropped a quarter in it and could pick two songs. Us kids use to giggle every time he used an aligator as a cannon and touched it off in his reaf.

I bought his album Johnny Hortons Greatest Hits in 1961 when I was in 8th grade. He died in a car-truck accident in November 1960 (his vehicle was struck by a drunk truck driver). New the lyrics to all his songs by heart!
  • The only man who take history and make it worth listening too. I wished he would have lived and I could have seen what other songs he could create. He died before I was born, but my dad used to play his record and I loved his songs. This is a compliment coming from a person who lived off of psychedelic rock, hard rock and disco growing up.
