  • I don't care what some people say, but I think that Johnny Horton is one of the best storytellers of songs ever.

Honestly, this version of the recording adds more depth to the song; just listen to the emotion through his voice. Long live Johnny Horton, your legacy will carry on through the years like old Jim Bridger....

Exquisite. I was a little girl When Johnny Horton died and remember hearing it on the news. Hearing his records left an imprint on my mind and I've never forgotten his voice, as my parents always had the radio on. The character of Johnny's beautiful voice is really showcased on this version.

"He crossed the majestic mountains to the valleys far below, Sam talked to his team of Huskies, as they mushed them through the snow. With the Northern lights a running wild in the land of the midnight sun, yeah Sam Mc Cord was a mighty man in the year of '91." That is what you call colorful language. Few writers have the ability to create a simple sentence or 2 that grab your attention. This Man was a walking, talking, and singing History book.

His greatest hits album was one of my dads favorite, I will never forget the days singing along with him and Johnny.

My grandfather walked from Nome to Fairbanks with a partner to stake a gold claim. 40 seasons later he had a gold mining camp with many miners. That was his living for over 40 years!

Can hear his voice much better in this one.

Couldn't help but listen to this, I'm in Kansas at this moment, and flying away in about 4 hours to head for Clark's Point, AK for the summer. Great song!
  • Songs like this one make me wonder why there is even a dislike button!!

I was born in 1956, so I wish Johnny Horton did not die too soon in a car accident in 1960 and he lived a full lifespan. Then there would have been a very good chance I would have been able to have seen Johnny Horton in concert! And of course, just imagine how many more fantastic songs Johnny Horton would have written had he lived a full lifespan.
