Clint Smith said it best. "Pistols put holes in people. Rifles put holes through people. Shotguns at the right range with the right load will physically remove a chunk of shit from your opponent and throw that shit on the floor"
  • I carried a shotgun in Vietnam and I will tell you it is a very viable option for a weapon.
  • I think a shotgun is a great weapon for defense entrenched in a home. Aimed at doors and hallways you can essentially shoot 9 bullets at once with 00 buck.

UKRAINIAN SOLDIERS ARE USING SHOTGUNS WITH NUMBER 4 SHELLS TO STOP DRONES...A SHOTGUN IS A MULTITOOL
  • I knew an old guy who had been a Marine on Okinawa in WW2. When the shooting started he couldn't hit the broad side of a barn so they gave him a 12 gauge. He wound up killing several enemy soldiers. Then they made him the bodyguard for an officer. In his 70s the old guy played tennis and refereed high school basketball games. He died in 2016 at 94 years old.
  • Any man that says a shotgun is not relevant In the firearms world because of its recoil or it’s too big, probably wears a shirt that snaps between the legs.

No arguing with the home howitzer, at least not a living argument
  • For the longest time, I only had one shotguns and I thought that's all I would need. Fast forward a couple of years, I now have a lot of shotguns, and I love them all.

    Shotguns are true stopping powah.

Self defense, anti drone, anti vehicle, and big/small game. I’ve always told young people or first time gun owners to buy a shotgun first then get whatever you want. Shotguns will work for 90% of people 90% of the situations they would use it for.
  • It's the go-to choice for those who value reliability and stopping power above all else.

What is the most recognized sound in the world? A pump action shotgun. What is the most versatile "tool" that goes bang? A shotgun. 00 Buck typically have 9 to 13 9mm size shot per shell. Making 2 shotshells the equivalent of or more than one magazine. Shotguns work well for large game, small game and can fit almost any home defensive situation.

For me a shotgun is a good idea due to versatility. Yes you can defend yourself pretty well with a shotgun and you can hunt well with a shotgun. You can buy a Mossberg Field and security model and have one shotgun, 2 barrels, that can cover most of your needs for a lot less than an AR. You can hunt anything from rabbit, dove, to deer all with the same gun.

I'm just going to take a guess. 1. ammo types 2. reduced penetration during home defense situations 3. fun
  • When I was in the military the shotgun was my favorate weapon for close in encounters and breaching. Not meant for distance but at close range it was very very effective.
  • @Taz418
Shotguns are, in my eyes, one of the most underrated tools in the self defense world. Yes, they have a learning curve and aren't the best for everything but I cannot think of a more effective, affordable, and versatile firearm out there. Outside of CCW, a shotgun, be it in 12 or 20 gauge even, will suit the majority of most people's needs. Law Enforcement and the military still use them to this day for a reason: they just plain work.
  • @DadHominem
When used within the range they were designed for, shotguns deliver massive amounts of energy on target while reducing many of the overpenetration problems that the use of a rifle can create.
  • @treshaw4122
Picked up a maverick 88 security model for $250. Has 7+1 capacity of 12 gauge pump and is one the few long guns I can own in CA without immediately being labeled a felon.
