What a day!.... for all the wrong reasons! The rain came down heavy the night before and checking the river levels app when i got up in the morning revealed the river had risen by a 3rd of its normal height!
After trying a new area of the river and having no luck, I moved a few miles upstream to a section I knew well and a couple of swims that I know usually hold Barbel. I was soon into a fish at the first swim I tried but catching the fish killed the swim. I moved to the next swim that was now overgrown with head high nettles, brambles and Himalayan Balsam. I soon cleared a little path through the undergrowth and a little spot for me to get fishing from. About half an hour later I heard someone else clearing a path through the undergrowth just upstream of me but I couldn't see them because the weeds were so high. The next minute there's a big dust cloud comes over me! I jumped up to see what was going on - I thought someone had dumped a bag of cement or something - to see a group of people startled at seeing me jump up. The bloke holding something over the water said ''oh my god, I'm so sorry mate, we didn't see you''! They were spreading his dad's ashes!!!
It was his favourite spot on the river apparently and wanted his ashes spread there.
