Wakarimasu! At Anime Central 2019, I attended a behind-the-scenes panel and press interview session with several of the principal staff on Shoujo Kageki Revue Starlight: Director Tomohiro Furukawa, Character Designer Hiroyuki Saita, Prop Designer Shiori Tani, and Animator Takushi Koide. There, they shed light on the thought process behind each of their creative decisions from the Giraffe to Bananice! I recount the fascinating details they offered building an original series, breathing life into an ensemble cast with limited screentime, and the challenges they faced throughout production. Enjoy!

For more Revue Starlight coverage, check out this two-part interview with the music production team diving in to each of the series' insert songs from the lyrics to their sound. Currently, Part 1 is available for channel patrons in the $3 tier or higher and will be made public Monday, July 8. Part 2 will post then as well. Part 1: www.patreon.com/posts/28054607

  • "Why not make Nana's hair bananas?" To which he responded.. "Genius."
  • @Pikachugecko
"with her star ornament modeled after... the subaru logo!" wakarimasu.
  • @juliandilsp
I find it funny that the talking giraffe was mainly to attract social media attention, because if it wasn't for me seeing the giraffe in a clip I never would have checked out the show. And I'm definitely glad I did!

  • @Sakugetsu_
    You used Junna/ Nana version of "Fly me to the Star" in the end. Best pair, thank you ;w;
  • @celestialnerd
Bana-nice video! It's obvious that so much love and care went into every single aspect of revue starlight, and I'm so happy to see it getting the attention it deserves!

I really like it that Mahiru's love of baseball came from Iwata Haruki herself haha
  • @tofuteh2348
Smash that like button like how Claudine would smash Maya after a heaty audition
  • Mayakuro On Screen = Instant Like Very cool video, I've been obsessed with this Show and its game for a while now, and as an aspiring artist, it was really interesting to have an insight into the process of designing those awesome characters.
  • The transformation scenes inspired by how its made series? Thank god this anime exist😍
  • I think it’s interesting that you frame being an anime original as a disadvantage, where as I consider it an advantage. I suppose that’s because it’s how the creators framed it, but really anime original means that the show can excel in the strengths of anime vs having to adapt material built to the strength of its original media.

Actually...I think no one can stop 'wakarimasu' after understanding Revue Starlight. Speaking as a giraffe is just cool.

Not gonna lie, this video is making me want to watch the series again and I rarely ever do that unless I really liked the series! Hearing about the BTS is incredible and makes the series event better for me. One question though, did the staff go into any detail regarding if and how the stage play influenced the anime? Because if I recall correctly the first stage play was shown before the anime aired, so I'm pretty surprised to hear that the anime was being developed first.
  • My word, this was so good. I knew it was good, but I never knew so much thought was put in its characters. And there's still the music, the art, the animation, the symbolism, and so much more that I've missed. Super ambitious project they pulled off, producing one of the best anime series last year.
  • @thisislesbomaya
Currently Revue Starlight is the thing that I live for, more than just the show. The entire surroundings of it are all just so fascinating and enjoyable. Im always glad to see more in depth discussions of it and cant wait to see the stage play soon.
  • The scores add a special flavor to the anime that makes it special.
