Hanging Air Filters for Small Shops

Published 2021-02-19
Hanging air filters are an important part of your shops overall dust collection setup. This video is a closer look at hanging air filters in general, their internal filtration system, location considerations, and some (ugh!) math to help you determine the air flow in your shop.

The air filter shown is the G0738 from ‪@grizzlymachines‬, and the link below will take you directly to the product page on grizzly.com. If it seems a good fit for your shop, enter the code RIVER10 at checkout and you can save 10% on the filter.

My understanding is the ideal position to mount these is at the ceiling and along the longest wall about 1/3 the way from the shorter wall and no less than 4 -6" from wall. You want to be blowing air towards that shorter wall to create the circular air flow.

I just bought the WEN model 3417. From all my research and the price point I wanted to stay in, it looked like ALL of the "brand name" models were pretty much the same, so guessing all made in maybe 1 or 2 factories, only different names. I like Grizzly, I have their table saw, but the WEN was cheaper for me. About 25 years or more ago, I build my own out of 1/2 inch plywood. Used 2 pre-filters in front, the 3 chamber bag filter in middle, then on the exhaust side, another filter. The blower was twice the size of these today, and moved a HUGE amount of air. Spent less than $300 total for it. Today, it's cheaper to buy one made.
  • Great video. Hopefully, you will do a project to replace your bag filter that puts 3 micron and smaller particles back into the shop with a cylindrical hepa filter. Your lungs will thank you! Your grizzly will take it down to about 1 micron and the small stuff is what gives people lung disease. A hepa filter will take it down to 0.3 microns. Glad you were using a serious respirator.

Good review on the air filter from Grizzly. Did you consider any others and what made you go with Grizzly? Great looking shop too by the way.

Why the Grizzley when the other clones are cheaper, WEN, Shop Fox, etc... Is this different or does it have something the other clones don't?

Great video. The discount code doesn’t seem to work anymore though. ☹️

I think you should flag sponsored content. You have a conflict of interest.
  • these are made by one company and distributed with many different names stuck on them. forget what the name is and just buy the cheapest you can find. I have just bought a Record Power filter which is the same size and colour.
