It's one of my favourite shows.. the animation was so amazing.. i feel like every Animator should watch this series, it's definitely one of the most unique ones.. the monkey baseball and film editing scene was mind blowing
  • I watched Sonny Boy this summer and after sitting with it for a while, I can say that it is one of my favourite series of all time. The feeling of drifting and feeling lost that this show captured connected with me in such a special kind of way. The philosophical ideas of the show dug deep into me as well and the music and animation is just some of my favourite ever. Masterpiece.

Interestingly i just watched this show and fell in love with the art direction. The saturated tones of the island world with the limited shading of the characters looks so good. Kind of reminds me of mamoru hosoda. I think the series definitely deserves higher praise

I'm far more a music guy opposed to an animation guy and speaking from the area which I dabble, I simply adore sonny boy's soundtrack. The whole line up of musicians they got is amazing and they did a wonderful job matching the setting. There are anime which have strong OSTS or iconic insert songs but personally the music from this anime is my comfort food. Maybe throw on lightship if I'm feeling spicy, after all the funeral scene is my favourite in the series.

As someone who's been captivated by the anime industry for a while, getting these insights was a real treat. One aspect that really caught my attention was how compartmentalized the animation process is. It's incredible how very small amounts of information is needed to crafting a compelling scene. I imagine there's a iterative revision process, involving someone working with the director , to ensure all the story pieces fit perfectly. Great video!

This is so good! I hope you get to talk more about the anime series you've worked on and the personal challenges art-wise that you face while working on them πŸ˜„
  • Thank you for sharing your experiences and insights of creating this show and bringing such a unique story to life. I watched it during it's original run and recently rewatched it and it and enjoyed it like the first time. The soundtrack is great and I especially liked the last episode, but all episodes were great and left me as the viewer thinking. It is a deep work, beautifully animated and one of my favourite shows.

So awesome to hear about the behind the scenes of this show. This was my favorite thing I saw all year, and went back to watch it again after reading about what all the themes meant that I didn't fully understand the first time watching it. I'm a huge fan of Tatami Galaxy and all its related works so it was really cool to see a similar show with this kind of art. I won't call it simple, I say it's a bold look to remove all the lighting and shading, and it makes everything much more intense! I prefer that much more than the super rendered look of other shows that come out, but it's definitely good to have both so they contrast each other.

I really really enjoyed this show! It really was an experience like no other

Wow, congrats on working in Sonny Boy. I had heard good things about it before watching it, but was not expecting such an amazing experience. It rose to the top of my list of favorite animes. Must have been amazing to have a part in that.

Kodama and Yamabiko's story still gets me, I didn't know you worked on this surreal show!
