As a russian, I can say it’s the most accurate video in youtube about our history and origin, just reminded to me school history lesson in Russia. Cool, thank you, author. Non-biased and non-propoganded, best video in youtube about Russia’s origin.

What I love most about this video is the heavy use of maps, so helpful.
  • In the Swedish language, Russia is called Ryssland. Greetings from Sweden.

Valdemaar the Great was a Danish king, the first person with the name Valdemar. He was born in Rus, he got a tranditional Rus' royal name. Since he was a son of a Danish prince (and a princess of Rus's Kiev) he came back to his father's land and became a scandinavian ruler after a civil war. That's how the name Vladimir turns to the name Valdemar.

Greetings Kevin, I happily stumbled upon this very informative video, the music, maps, et all, gives me nothing but joy in my heart. I live on the southern tip of India, of Jewish Portuguese descent. When i watched this video, I had gone back in time, understood about Slavic historical facts and just had nothing but love for this beautiful country, Russia. Congratulations on this great piece of history, am happy that someone had taken so much effort to put this video out, just when the world is at war, WW3. This video will be sent to my friends and family for sure. Wishing you well, Kevin. Kudos! Love from Kerala, subcontinent.
  • How can an avid youtube historybuff guy like me only now stumble upon this gem of a history channel? Only 57.3K subscribers since 2013 yet having such good material? Your being held back... Algorithim may be doing you wrong, my new friend.

Vladimir is equivalent to the name Raymond (Regimundus) – which means: "ruler of the world".

The further back into the centuries, the less reliable the history of the Russians. Because there are too few documentary sources. Because of fires, wars... So now in the ancient history of Russians there can be a lot of fiction. At least I have not heard that the Russians had admixtures of the Swedish haplogroup. Nevertheless, the ancient Russian warriors are very reminiscent of the Vikings. But even if the Russians came from the north, they may have been some kind of separate tribe. In addition, the Slavs have a legend about three brothers divided into Lyakh, Rus and Czech (Pole, Russian and Czech). The missing library of Ivan the Formidable could shed light on the true history of Russians. But perhaps it is lost forever. Only in Novgorod are many birch bark letters found because of the swampy, anoxic soil, which could preserve birch bark for centuries. Perhaps there was a lot of correspondence in other places, but birch bark is extremely short-lived in the air. The birch-bark letters of the ancient Novgorodians are amazing. There was an active correspondence. One gets the feeling that the Novgorodians were all literate. Because they find letters and even children and women. I remember the text of the birch-bark letter, where the brother demanded that his brother repay the debt. He took the goat from him and does not return it. The text is in Old Slavonic, but the curses are quite modern Russian. 😉

I'm Asian appreciated much how you delivered historical origins on your YOU TUBE CHANNEL...good narrator...and well presented....compared to those vloggers who are more showing of their faces while talking that we cannot fully understand the story of what they're featuring into...that makes me bored and search for more informative just like yours...GOD BLESS

There's a mountain range named after Saint Elias in Alaska, as well as a lot more Russian influence. Colonizing part of the American continent is an interesting bit of Russian history. There are a lot of Russians still living here. I have nothing but respect for them. I hope Alaskans don't see them differently for what's happening in the Mother Land.
  • Very interesting. In the last century because of the super power friction this interesting history has been quashed and by revealing this fascinating saga you have helped me to understand the region better. Thank you.
  • @fifthfreedom7

This is an excellent and informative video. I find it puzzling is the fact that it is well known in Russia and neighboring nations that Russia occupied Paris in 1814, however, most Western people are unaware of it.
