What I love most about this video is the heavy use of maps, so helpful.

That whole line about choosing Christianity over Islam because he can't give up the pleasure of drink cracked me up.
  • In the Swedish language, Russia is called Ryssland. Greetings from Sweden.

Valdemaar the Great was a Danish king, the first person with the name Valdemar. He was born in Rus, he got a tranditional Rus' royal name. Since he was a son of a Danish prince (and a princess of Rus's Kiev) he came back to his father's land and became a scandinavian ruler after a civil war. That's how the name Vladimir turns to the name Valdemar.

How can an avid youtube historybuff guy like me only now stumble upon this gem of a history channel? Only 57.3K subscribers since 2013 yet having such good material? Your being held back... Algorithim may be doing you wrong, my new friend.

As a russian, I can say it’s the most accurate video in youtube about our history and origin, just reminded to me school history lesson in Russia. Cool, thank you, author. Non-biased and non-propoganded, best video in youtube about Russia’s origin.

Very interesting. In the last century because of the super power friction this interesting history has been quashed and by revealing this fascinating saga you have helped me to understand the region better. Thank you.

Fascinating and timely release. I learned more and enjoyed this far more than a lecture I watched on Slavic origins not too long ago.

Greetings Kevin, I happily stumbled upon this very informative video, the music, maps, et all, gives me nothing but joy in my heart. I live on the southern tip of India, of Jewish Portuguese descent. When i watched this video, I had gone back in time, understood about Slavic historical facts and just had nothing but love for this beautiful country, Russia. Congratulations on this great piece of history, am happy that someone had taken so much effort to put this video out, just when the world is at war, WW3. This video will be sent to my friends and family for sure. Wishing you well, Kevin. Kudos! Love from Kerala, subcontinent.

Vladimir is equivalent to the name Raymond (Regimundus) – which means: "ruler of the world".

There's a mountain range named after Saint Elias in Alaska, as well as a lot more Russian influence. Colonizing part of the American continent is an interesting bit of Russian history. There are a lot of Russians still living here. I have nothing but respect for them. I hope Alaskans don't see them differently for what's happening in the Mother Land.

Thank you for a great video! The most unbiased history video of the matter I've seen on Youtube

Thanks, Very informative and comprehensive. And unbiased. You´ve explained in half an hour what scholars, drowning in details, couldn´t in half a century.
