The sense I get about living in Florida is that those who can experience the good life (with a boat, or living near the water or having friends that do) are the fortunate ones, and for the rest the lifestyle is pretty similar to everywhere else in the USA. Even though there is no income tax, living in Florida can be expensive with taxes on everything else, and I don't get the sense that wages are very good. I speak extensively with a friend who lives in Cape Coral. We talk about the pros and cons all the time. And he has a boat.

I am a native Floridian who moved to Phuket Thailand 10 years ago to retire at 49. I have a paid off house 5 minutes from a world class surf beach. Brand new 3 bed 3 bath pool home for 300k. I have zero property taxes, and zero insurance costs. My house is solid concrete. Even if something did happen, 20k would fix any repairs. I eat delicious Thai food for 15 bucks a day. My health insurance is $1800 a year. No deductible, and the hospitals are world class. I had 10 stitches in my chin last month, that cost $65 dollars in the emergency room. Can barely see the scar now. I am not even going to get into the politics of Florida, but in Thailand they have such a live and let live attitude that I am afraid America has lost.

Thanks Craig, I came home to Florida after being in NY for 2 weeks and had no AC. I drained the condensation line and my AC came on Immediately!
  • Thanks for this very informative video! I love the water views!
  • love ur vids so much. I’m moving to florida from Michigan in the fall for school at FGCU and I’m so excited lol. I’ve vacationed there every year and fell in love so hopefully I like living there for a few years. But the beach area is just destroyed it broke my heart to see.

Residing in Maryland doesn't seem so bad now ... we have mountains and the beach. I live in an older townhouse, and no HOA. I read that 80% of all new construction in the country is attached to a HOA now.

Hi Craig! Thanks for explaining clearly with detail, love the content! I'm a real estate agent moving back to Florida from New Jersey and I am learning so much more than I thought I knew from when I lived in Naples. My friend owns "Turco Taco" and" Simit" and a little inside information, they are opening another location in downtown Fort Myers. If you can give a shoutout at some point that would be greatly appreciated.

Born, raised, and still live in northern Palm Beach County. I've been to every single state in the continental US and have kicked around the idea of moving due to the crowds here. Every other place that would be a consideration probably has the same crowds as well so for the meantime I'm staying right here.

If your rich, then any place you live is great. Need to make more money. Florida is expensive, living paycheck to paycheck. Vero beach, FL

Loved the story of the lady you helped buy a house and you coming over to help her with her float switch. You sound like a pretty good guy. We’re definitely moving within the next 6 to 12 months. Considering Fort Myers. I’ve noticed a lot of nice properties in the area.

Grew up in fort myers. Left when I was 24. I still have a house there and go visit my parents a couple times a year. It has changed drasticly over the last couple decades. The cost of living will drop at some point, same thing happened in 2009 or so and when the bubble finally burst, it was super cheap. But thanks to Ian, the "small town beach" vibe and lifestyle is probably over. I miss it, but the volume of people who have moved to the area is testing the limits of roads and infrastructure. I hate to say it, but it seems destined for the same fate as Miami and Lauderdale. Too crowded for its own good.

Flipping through these channels and when I saw your channel I thought, hey here's Antonio Banderas selling houses without a accent, what's going on? πŸ˜‚ After listening awhile, great info thanks.

Thank you for posting this informative video

If you are making good money it’s fine, but if you don’t it’s too expensive to buy or even rent. Florida used to be more affordable but not anymore
  • Craig you mentioned a lot of things no one talks about. Thanks. I live in Pensacola and that isn't much difference. We are going to back to the Eastern Panhandle of WV soon.

Just bought a house in North Port. The trick is buy a house built after 2006! Or insurance will be ridiculous. I lived in Florida in the early 90s and taxes were dirt cheap. My new home taxes are almost what I pay in Connecticut ! But no CarTaxes or taxes on my three pensions so I’ll save there. Desantis needs to put the hammer down on insurance companies instead of picking fights with job creators !
