GODZILLA MINUS ONE • Best Film of 2023 | Non-Spoiler Review

Can’t believe I cried, not just once, but 3 times! Freaking can’t wait to see it at 4Dx

Finest blockbuster of the last 20 years. Miyazaki meets Kurosawa meets Godzilla meets Luke Skywalker. Stunned. Gotta see it again.

Shocked at how good this movie was. I’m going to see it again…it may have been the best movie I’ve seen in several years.

I went in with zero expectations and I came out having actually watched one of the best movies I’ve seen in years. Yes it really is that good.

You know I've never in my entire life gone to see a movie twice in the theater. This is the movie that changed all that, I'm going back tomorrow.

I watched it last night. There were people in the audience sniffling, and it had me in tears at one point. After the movie the audience I was with stood up and we applauded for like 5 seconds. It’s the first time I’ve enjoyed an international film with a US crowd that had this kind of reception. It’s deff worth the price of the ticket.

This movie was amazing. I’ve been telling people even if you’re not a monster mayhem movie fan, this movie has a human element that anyone can relate to. Not only a fantastic Godzilla film, but a great movie in general.

The Ginza attack sequence is the best Godzilla attack scene ever made. The buildup (especially to the atomic breath attack), the emotion, the tension, the human reaction to the absolute horror of it all, chef's kiss---perfection! I realized as the scene ended that I was having a bodily reaction to that scene---my heartrate was elevated. That scene was the highlight of the movie for me, but I loved the entire movie. A masterpiece! My favorite Godzilla movie.

Ok that was not only the best Godzilla film ive ever seen but one of the best films i have seen in a long time. Never thought they could get the Human story correct in a Godzilla film and that story of 3 strangers trying to Survive post ww2 was done ABSOLUTELY PERFECT. Cant wait to go see it again and buy the 4K blu ray. 10/10

I'm shocked that it took this long for a Godzilla movie like this to be made. I have been saying for years that the most obvious way to make a Godzilla movie is to take it back to it's roots, to what made the original work. Then the trailer for this movie dropped and I went "that's it. That's exactly it" Takashi Yamazaki completely understood the assignment.

It so reminds me of the first movie. The characters are surprisingly fleshed out and it’s more than just about Godzilla. But when Godzilla is on the screen it had me go 😳😱 My theater clapped at the end (including myself). 10/10 👏

I also watched it last weekend. In this movie, the heavy theme of war and the fiction of monsters miraculously coexist. I agree with his opinion that it is the best movie of 2023.

I thought by the trailers that this would be a really special movie. As a lifelong Godzilla fan, I was incredibly excited to see this, and so the announcement of the early viewing fan event on the 29th, which happens to be my birthday, felt like a rare gift from the universe. I cannot express how right my gut was, as this movie is easily my favourite movie of the year, and easily my favourite Godzilla movie, likely ever. It was so well done, especially for that budget, and so unbelievably poignant in its themes. I just want to go see it again. I hope this movie kills it in the box office. As much as I've enjoyed the western Godzilla movies since Godzilla 2014, as you said, they're utterly devoid of a worthwhile human element. With Minus One, the human element was, to me, shockingly, the best part of the movie. And man, the score. Can't wait for any vinyls and/or physical collector's editions that come of this. If you have even a passing interest in period pieces or monster films, please go see this. Even if you're not a fan of reading subtitles, this movie is so worth it.

Saw this in Boston last night. What a moving film. Godzilla was absolutely terrifying here. I may have cried more than once. I haven't been to the movies at all this year, but I went for this one, and so glad I did. Oddly, there were only about 8 people in the theater for the advanced screening. But in a way that worked, as I got to really be absorbed into the film without distraction.

I saw it today and its one of my favorite Godzilla movies ever. The human element kept me so involved that it had me tearing up at times. Godzilla was perfect in this and it was one of the first times I was actually pissed at it. Thankfully we get a happy ending which had me in tears.
