Fun fact: Jedi using bad tactics was actually canon in EU, and it was explained that last war they participated in was few million years earlier, and everyone was jedi, so charging like that was actually useful. But it's not when your soldiers are normal people.

Well clone wars is a bit of an analogy to WW1, before they had this whole “fighting with guns” tactics known.

This is why I loved the Republic Commando and Rogue Squadron novels. Neither are perfect, but both series had authors who did TONS of research into things like actual dogfighting, martial arts, and touching into the basics of how actual special-forces type squads operate; or at least how they would if they were genetically enhanced and encased in tank-like Katarn armor or were a Force-sensitive pilot who's spent his entire life behind the stick of an X-wing.

I feel you should be fair in some cases. Commander Thorn and his squad were caught out in the open by Separatist forces who overwhelmed them. And as for the clip with Domino Squad, the point is that they don’t work well together and thus fail. When they do work together is probably one of the best scenes with military tactics, making use of cover and backing each other up instead of always just charging ahead.

That’s why clone trooper resentment is a point made in the novels. Jedi forget they are leading non Jedi, and take heavy casualties as a result.

I yearn for the day a stormtrooper squad clears a building effectively by doing the following. 1) Throw a grenade or flash bang into a room before entering. 2) Sending in one trooper after the other to secure every corner of the room and eliminate all targets in their sight. 3) Establishing that the room is clear and exchange ammo so they can clear the next room effectively. 4) Hold positions if necessary and await further orders, reinforcements, medical attention. Please tell me if i missed something.

I have zero knowledge of military tactics, but I've definitely used bounding overwatch intuitively when playing RTS games, without even knowing the term.

I love that the battle droids, who are repurposed basic exposable sentries, use more tactics than the clones, elite drugged up super soldiers. It goes to show who are the real professionals in the war, especially when you consider that even the CIS at it's weakest near the end of the war after Utapau should have feasibly won the conflict, and that isn't including their whole army when you consider most of it was far away from actual combat.

I don't think traditional fencing could apply to lighsaber combat, keeping in mind a lightsaber can cut anything without applying to much force, giving the posibility to perform more close maneuvers
