Excellent review - appreciate always being able to count on you for the latest and greatest.

Factories are pretty open and ventilated so head height sensors probably make sense, but not in residential. Chemicals that float collect in the ceiling, probably escape before getting to the point you'd breath them in even if your walking around. Chemicals that sink are the killers, they collect on the ground and because we tend to lie down when we sleep, it doesn't take as long to get to our breathing level. So ya, you want to detect the bad stuff near the ground long before it has a chance to build up.

I have several fans on all year (very hot apartment) and am looking for more efficient ones. From what I've read, DC is better than AC. Dreo's page on the MC710S says the brushless DC motor brings the noise down (but doesn't say if both motors are brushless). Dyson's website says nothing but the listing at Amazon says it's DC. Does this matter?

Well done, Mr. R! You're not just blowing smoke.
  • @philipperostin
I wonder though. If you have central AC like we have, with a very powerful and large 2 stages filter (Thats I DO change twice a year) is there any suplemental benefit to this kind of unit ?
  • @DoctorRevers
Filter replacement frequency and cost could be a deciding factor. My Winix unit is excellent but filters are expensive

Would love to find the link where you bought it for $300
  • @TheBioniXman
The two fans look to be completely different technology to me.
  • @davidw717
Why can't you get this in the UK? I don't want to have to buy a Dyson fan this summer! 🌞
  • @DoctorRevers
Yes one does look quite a bit nicer. But $300 nicer?
  • @philipperostin
ANY Dyson piece of equipment is way overprice. You pay the design and the fashion factor, but thats all. In fact you cant reinvent the wheel, and as they both use the same filters, most probably manufactured by a third party, there is no way the results could be different. Anyway, nice video to (I hope) wake up some buyers at Best Buy or other stores, to stop trying to sell stuff nobody wants.
  • Dyson fans are garbage. Mine started squeaking really loud after about 2 years. If that fan last one year then it’s a better buy because I spent about $400 for each year the Dyson worked.

I use a GREE GCF100AANA in my shop (Has no windows and no air flow at all) and it works perfectly except when I do extensive wood cutting and especially MDF of course, but after about 30minutes it does succefully cleans the air to acceptable levels, and it is only 170 canadian pesos ! Its is not smart, but hey I dont even have internet in my shop ! The Dreo looks fantastic though, I will inquire for sure.
