Israel's Netanyahu ordered Ismail Haniyeh's killing to scuttle peace talks: Former Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Oman and UAE, Talmiz Ahmad, to Karan Thapar for The Wire.

...........................................

One of India’s foremost experts on the Middle East and a former Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Oman and UAE, Talmiz Ahmad, has said that he believes Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu could have ordered the killing of the Hamas leader and former Prime Minister of Palestine, Ismail Haniyeh, to scuttle the peace talks because if a successful ceasefire had been agreed to Netanyahu would have lost his job as Prime Minister of Israel.

Mr. Ahmad does not believe that the Biden Administration in Washington would have been consulted leave aside had given prior clearance before the assassination of Haniyeh. He also believes that although Hamas and Iran will retaliate – and separately Hezbollah for the killing of Fuad Shukr 24 hours earlier – they will do so in their own time and in a measured way because they do not wish to provoke a wider regional conflict.

I am only giving you the big main points made by Mr. Ahmad. This is a very topical interview, on an issue that only happened in the late hours of last night i.e. early this morning. With his experience and insight, Mr. Ahmad is able to give us an invaluable analysis of the issues involved which is why this is an interview you should see if you want to understand why Haniyeh was killed and what could be the outcome.

  • Al-Jazeera, TRT, Wire, BBC etc lost one of their own in Hanniyeh 😂😂
  • @13:56 Karan has shown how green he is in terms of military operations. Iran's retaliation was not meaningless. It was a successful attack. It hit the airfield from which the baghdad consulate was hit. It was also able to collect vast amounts of information about the missile defence system that israel and its allies use. The attacks were announced in advance for a reason. Please someone teach karan about some basics of military operations. Iran never had intentions of going to war with israel, it has learnt the lesson from Saddam Hussein. It will only strike when it has nuclear delivery capability.
  • People should first differentiate between a terrorist vs a proper political leader.
  • U seem to be more worried about the Middle East rather than worrying about Kerala crisis
  • Sir, how could this assassination be done deep inside Tehran without the consent of Iranian government.
  • Correct but who advised Palestine to start it if u kill then u will be killed simple why hue and cry now first of condemn the action of Palestine

This ex-ambassador's views are skewed and don't show balance .... You have interviewed him on this topic before, Karan and he shows the same biased views
  • @dramritgill6793
He was a political leader not a terrorist, for the people who don’t understand the difference.
  • @yoganathan
Why do experts keep predicting future? every event has consequences which only time can tell
  • @skny1
Why he has to kill to scuttle? He would have other ways to scuttle. If killing is the only way then prime minister needs to be removed
  • @DigitUnni
If Israel has done this then India should learn on how to deal with terror
  • After October 7th the word Peace is wiped out of the Israel's dictionary 😂
