  • Hayato Sumino , he has not been trained in any conservatoire. His mother is a piano teacher and he studied at Tokyo university and got his master degree in engineering. It is just like a British contestant who use to be a student in University of Oxford , not in Royal Academy of Music, or an American contestant who finished his degree in California institute of Technology or MIT, not in The Julliard School. He is a amazing many talented man. I have never seen such a man who can preform and study well.
  • Its very nice to see how his hands are shaking a lot at the beggining and slowly, as the music develops and unfolds, it becomes less and less noticeable. Impeccable!
  • I didn't know such a competition existed before YouTube. I would love to be a part of the live audience once the pandemic is over.

He looks like Chopin, I always think so. He has much techniques, passion, strength. His performance is so sophisticated. I think if Chopin was alive today, he would like play like this.
  • I'm a huge fan of Hayato Sumino and though he didn't make it to the finals, it is thoroughly impressive that he can perform at such an elite level with no formal training. I think this speaks volumes of his talent. If you follow his social media channels he is so skilled at music it honestly blows my mind. He can transform classical standards into both modern and jazz styles (which are mesmerizing) and ALSO write his own music. I honestly don't know a more multi-talented, cross-genre musician of this generation. If someone does, please let me know...
  • his facial expressions show how into the competition he was.... incredible.
  • @physical2086
    めちゃくちゃ手が震えてもこんなパフォーマンスができるの凄すぎるな
  • As a classical pianist myself, I could hear the mistakes he was making, but most people can't. Was his performance perfect? Definitely not, but I felt like his interpretation and musicality are so much better than others that get trained to interpret these songs in such a perfect way leaving no room for an organic flow to the song. I felt like Hayato captured the essence of Chopin even if his playing wasn't perfect. Brilliant stuff.
  • breathtaking! He fully understands and expresses Chopin's sadness and passion. Can you believe that this pianist who plays so beautifully, delicately, and emotionally has a master's degree in "Science and Engineering" from the University of Tokyo? What a talented man!
  • Wait, CATEEN??????? This guy recorded like rhythm game music (Scorpion Fire) and stuff on piano, already performed Rach 2 with orchestra on stage before, etc. Absolute pro, very amazed and much pleased to see him here.
  • The Chopin Competition was held when my mother was in critical condition. How much Chopin's songs played by Hayato Sumino which are delivered when I can't sleep, supported me ... I'm still listening to it repeatedly.
  • Very happy news! In September 2022, Hayato Sumino will perform "Chopin Piano Concerto No. 1 in E minor Op.11" with the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra! ( Orkiestry Symfonicznej Polskiego Radia w Katowicach ) Currently, 11 cities in Japan have been decided to hold the concert, and the conductor is Marin Alsop. Hayato didn't make it to the final stage, but he get the opportunity to play with a Polish orchestra. This is really Fabulous.

Just to add this: I like Chopin but he usually doesn’t touch me the way some other composers do. This performance got me emotionally closer to Chopins work after many many years listening to his music. For that I say thank you to this young and very talented artist.
  • Before the performance, Hayato Sumino gently put his hand on his chest while climbing the stairs. It looked like he was greeting his beloved Chopin. He was here to meet Chopin. His piano was pure and free, with kindness and strength, and deeply touched I want to hear Hayato Sumino's piano again!

He's a pure artist. This is not just great technique. There is personality, charm, independence, passion, creativity, logic, intellect, empathy and a wealth of wisdom from the relatively limited experience of his age. He pours every bit of himself onto those keys. Please let nothing bad happen to Hayato Sumino.
  • @ymks2651
His 48-1 is THE BEST!!!!!!!!!! 何百回聴いても毎度心臓が震える。
  • かてぃんさんマジですごい 上品かつ華のある演奏。
  • He shows Chopin’s sadness, grief, loneliness and peace in mind beautifully through his performance.
  • @GraceNoora
In October 2021, Hayato did not get into the finals in Poland. October 2022, he performed the Chopin Concerto with the top Polish orchestra NOSPR during their sold-out tour all over Japan. On October 4, 2024, Hayato is going back to Poland to perform once again with the NOSPR conducted by Ms. Marin Alsop ❤️. He is a true winner!
