To the Persian king Sam (yes, really) was born a son named Zal--whose only negative trait was his white hair, which apparently horrified the king enough to cast him out to the mountains. No worries--Zal was going turn out fine. And we mean, really fine.

Sam was just worried because he got an Anime protagonist for a son and he knows parents of Anime Protagonists never come out unscathe

The character dynamics in here are really interesting. Sam makes a mistake and begs forgiveness, which he gets. Zal gives Rudabeh's servants jewels and a message, and the servants don't immediately scheme to undercut her somehow. He also passes his tests with no divine help, and Rudabeh's disapproving father doesn't back out of the deal. I get the feeling that if this were, say, a Greek myth, half the people involved would be dead after a whole bunch of lies and miscommunication.

Apparently Zal is a DnD character. Never go adventuring without a good length of rope. Never. -
Good thing Bird Mom didn't skimp on Zal's education!
