people's takeaway is how he got bodied but imo the real highlight is imagine your magic being so perfect that literally 80 years later, it becomes the standard. Your magic was so perfect that magic battles for decades after you became defined by it.

"Qual, your spell was too powerful. So we fed it to the AI as training data. Now every mage can use it with just a simple text prompt."
  • @fawkes6352
It's not that his magic became weaker. It's that his magic became meta.
  • It is like when you're doing end game content, but you decide to go back and fight a boss from the previous expansion.

Thing that is missing in all clips of that fight was that that Demon instantly mimicked that defensive spell and only after casting small hex of it himself he reached conclusion that it must require large quantities of magic to cast. It developed extremely advanced offensive spell, so terrifying that humanity spend most of their effort on developing defensive spell precisely against it. And first thing he does after getting unsealed? It replicates said defensive spell and figure out it's weaknesses. Truly grave threat. If Frieren divulged which Demon General was creator of Zoltraak or it was well-known, they should've camped it while it was sealed by small army of mages eager to finish it off the instant it's possible.

the fact that he was sealed for 80 years and still figured out the weaknesses of the new magic techniques in a couple of seconds still shows how powerful he really was.
  • @Xahnel
Be proud, demon. Your magic was astounding. It became the foundation of combat. You will survive forever in our histories.

I just realized that Fern did the exact same thing as Qual during her Mage exam. Saturation attacks to overwhelm her opponent's defensive magic and mana. I wonder if she picked it up during this encounter.

I like how he wasn't pissed or flabbergasted, yelling and muttering "Impossible" like most anime villains. Instead he calmly reasons that the nuke-proof shield would be extremely expensive, and the solution is to break it.
  • Imagine spending your whole life perfecting the ultimate assault spell and getting killed by a commodetized version of it
  • @benjaminlim3936
Frieren knows that the demons she's dealing with are very dangerous so she doesn't give them time to adapt. Great to know that the demons in this anime are more arrogant than cautious. 😀
  • @plusleID
Qual lookin frieren at the sky and said "you can fly huh!?" and later we found out that humans are only able to fly not until 40 years ago, even that they still don't know fully the principal behind it..
  • @warmmafura
I like Qual, not because of his deep voice but mostly how he figured out the defensive spell so fast He would have became something great if he wasn’t a demon in that verse
  • @mindassassin
We should not overlook the fact that in an instant he perfectly understood and replicated the defensive magic that humanity had developed over the last 80 years specifically in response to his spell. If he hadn't been killed right then it would've probably taken him less than a week to create a new spell that would once again render defensive magic useless.
  • Now I really want to see the heros party fight Qual 80yrs ago. Frieren literally has some reality warping magic and the whole party could only resort to sealing Qual? That's insane
