I've said this before, but I really, REALLY wanna see Athena talk about Octonauts. I feel like it's the type of thing she'd do a lot of lore freakouts over. Edit: Just. I can already imagine. The explanation for why Esteban is popular is the "Poor Little Meow Meow" phenomena. He's over 50, he's problematic, he makes himself and everyone around him miserable, and he's deeply pathetic and very silly. There is no suffering you can force on this man that he will not self-inflict ×5 worse. He DOES feel remorse but he IS also going to run to the ends of the earth rather than deal with the aftermath. Hell several women over the course of the show see him and say "I can make him worse" and I am no different.

For those who don’t know the voice actress for Elena is Aimee Carrero. She has had many voice acting roles for example, She is the voice of Adora/She-Ra from the Netflix TV Show. •Also,the voice actress for Isabel (Elena’s Sister) is Jenna Ortega from Wednesday (Netlfix), Scream Movies, You (Netflix), Stuck in the Middle, etc.

The thing abt Esteban- I'm not sure if it's mentioned out loud, but I think the implication is that people literally almost never listened to him? Like he would have all these ideas or suggestions and nobody would ever really take him seriously. He also has a lot of survivors guilt from his parents' deaths, becaude he told them not to go, he had a bad feeling about it, but they went anyway(mentioned in one of the Christmas specials). The Shuriki thing just happened to be the last straw for him. As far as his behavior afterwards is concerned, I personally think it's mostly a defense mechanism he developed during those 41 years under Shuriki. Like yes, it is absolutely his fault she took over, but she was also terrible to him while she was in power. Trauma is trauma no matter what causes it and even though he's in a much safer environment now, breaking those habits is going to be insanely difficult, because he's been developing like this for the past 41 YEARS of his life, since he was 18 at MOST. The conflict in EoA is incredibly complex, and while Esteban is definitely in the wrong, his motivations make a lot more sense when you consider all the stuff we aren't explicitly told and is left in the subtext. It also compliments Elena's biggest flaw, her impulsivety based on strong emotional reactions, incredibly well. Esteban's actions are incredibly nuanced, and Elena's initial gut reaction prevents her from really seeing that. Tl;dr everyone in this show needs fuckin therapy lmao Ps: A cool thing I noticed in the Syrena special, when Elena turns invisible to try and avoid Shuriki and co., the one thing that remains visible is the necklace that Cristobal gave her during the big musical number at the beginning, which gives her position away. This is a BRILLIANT way to foreshadow his eventual betrayal.

They made Christmas "Wasalia" in Sofia so that they didn't need to alienate other religions that celebrated other winter holidays. Elena celebrates Christmas because Navidad is important to the Hispanic culture Avalor is based on, and it would have been insensitive to change it. They still call it Navi Da, which is Spanish for Christmas because 1- it's part of the culture, and 2- it's enough of a change that Karens of other religions can't get mad that they called it Christmas. Also, as a Christian, it's really not a big deal that they didn't say Christmas. Good lord, not everyone celebrates it, so just let people be.

I feel like a big part of what made so many people Esteban fans (myself included) was the haphazard way Disney originally released the series. Since the first ten episodes aired before the StF episode that properly introduced the series, Esteban was a very mysterious character. Why was he excluded from the portrait? Why did he spend the first handful of episodes trying to undermine Elena? How old was he when Shuriki took over/how old is he now? So many questions! To help combat Disney's bonkers move, showrunner Craig Gerber was more forthcoming about Esteban's background than he might have been otherwise, including revealing that his parents died when he was just a boy almost a full two seasons before that was revealed in the show. So the combination of not knowing about his earlier betrayal and learning sympathetic facts about him from the creator upped his appeal. But another big factor is just the way his voice actor, Christian Lanz, voiced him. So good.

The theme song to this show was soooooo good. When I saw this videos thumbnail the Elana of Avalor song started playing in my head immediately.
