Pokémon Scarlet and Violet reviewed by Rebekah Valentine on Nintendo Switch.

Discovering and catching charming monsters across an enormous open world with an actually good story is really fun. But it is completely impossible to play Scarlet and Violet and not notice at least some performance issues, and not just framerate problems: these games actively crash, disconnect, and break in highly distracting ways basically all of the time.

  • My favorite part was when Nemona took you up to the lighthouse and said "Look at this beautiful landscape" as it panned over N64 graphics and those trees from banjo kazooie.

You know its bad when IGN gives the game a low rating and the comment section is agreeing

That last line was exactly what needed to be said. The proper care consumers have come to expect has absolutely not been shown with these games
  • The Xenoblade Chronicles Trilogy, Monster Hunter Rise and Stories 2, Astral Chain, Nier Automata, Persona 5, the Bayonetta trilogy and Metroid Dread are proof that theirs no excuse defending Pokémon Scarlet and Violet terrible graphics and performance on the switch.

the most honest an accurate review I've ever heard from IGN.
  • @RazgrizAce67
If this franchise didn't have 25 years of history and fan dedication behind it, this game would be in a bargain bin shortly after release.
  • What a stark difference from Sword & Shield. IGN gave that game a 9.3.
  • @armani6194
This was unironically one of the best IGN game reviews
  • Sad part is despite all the technical flaws, this game will still go on to outsell it’s previous titles which is why GameFreak won’t bother making a better game.
  • IGN, thank you for being a responsible reviewer and giving this the score it's supposed to have. Whether or not the Pokemon company (or Game Freak) listens is a different story.
  • @MerlinCheng
Pokemon no longer close their eyes when affected by Sleep in battle. It is very distracting to see eyes wide open with ZZZ popping up. Also, each Pokemon literally have a napping animation in the overworld, why couldn't they have use that?
  • @JardsonJean
There is no reality in which any other company would release a game this messy in terms of performance and still go on to sell millions and this is why it's so important and necessary to rate this game down. Nintendo and GF need to listen and do better.
  • @TrunkJunky
You know shit's real when IGN can't ignore the flaws of a game.
  • @RyanBounedara
Rebs killed it with this review! There's a way to still enjoy a game but have valid criticisms about its shortcomings, and she nailed it.

6/10 is a mark of shame for such a beloved series. Hopefully Nintendo will get their act together with this IP.
  • @CharlesSalami
If you buy this game don’t expect something better the next time a Pokémon game comes out
  • @Osafune2
Embarrassing that such an established franchise with such a huge fan base still fails to deliver
  • @binchuuu1886
6 is way too generous in my opinion. It's heartbreaking seeing a Pokemon game in this state.

Say what you want, but "Larry" the normal gym leader is the most relatable character as an adult and low key seems like projection from Game Freak.
